Modnation Racers: Waste of my money.

I had been excited for Modnation Racers for a long time, as I was a big Little Big Planet fan and was excited to see what else Sony's 'Play, Create, Share' series could offer. You know what they offered? Shit, seriously. Modnation Racers is one of the most tedious games I've ever played. First off, I know I'm beating a dead horse with this comment but holy shit the load times. I've never found myself getting bored of a game due to it's load times, but this one managed to do it. I counted how long it took me to get into XP Race from launching the game of the XMB, how long you wonder, seven ing minutes. But that's not all when I finally got into a game, I did start to have fun cruising in first place, but then I get hit with one item and drop straight to 8th place. What reminds me alot of Mario Kart where you basically get punished for being in the lead, bullshit.

What got me excited for this game was one of the commercials what showed the 'mods' based of Playstation characters like; Kratos, Nathan Drake and Ratchet. But guess what, they're all pre-order bonus's. I'm not saying Modnation Racers is a bad game, wait, yes I am. Don't buy this crock shit of a Kart Racer, Split/Second is the way to go in this Kart Racer 3-way were in right now. This is my opinion and if you disagree, fair enough, but...you're wrong.

You didn't figure out how to use the shield, did you. My game hasn't even arrived yet and I know about it.

I think you may have just not learned all the stuff the game can do, or you just wanted a simple racer. Split/Second is very simple with only 4 buttons ever used. ModNation has a shield (which fixes your problem of being hit in first place) sideswipes, etc. etc. It's a lot of buttons, and I didn't even realize the complexity of it (in terms of a kart racer).

Yeah, the loading times are kinda bad, but mostly for the Career mode if you are leaving and entering the Modspot a lot or when you first start the game.

Also, those preorder bonuses? A lot of people have recreated those mods very accurately, probably should have looked for them.

Also, if you play casual races online, it goes much quicker. Whenever a game ends, it puts you back in the same lobby and hardly any load times.

I think it's a great game, and I'm having fun with it...but it is a little complex for a kart racer, especially if you are coming from Mario Kart or the racer Split/Second.
The load times are pretty terrible in the game, just popping in the game to play a few minutes really isn't an option with the long loads.

I also agree about the characters only being a pre-order bonus. I really wanted Ratchet and Clank, but I didn't want to pre-order the game just for a character in the game.

For me, the best part of the game is being able to make your own characters, karts and tracks, that is what kept me entertained the most when I was playing it.

I liked the demo. Haven't got to play the full game yet. The load times was terrible on it as well, but it didn't really bother me.

I will also beat this dead horse further into the ground and say that when a game has a MANDATORY 3 gig plus install these load times are shit. Putting that aside the gamew is not all that bad. I personally have had a hard time finding an online XP race. Single player is fun enough and the quality time I have had playing split screen with my 11 yr old daughter justifies the game as well.

Now as far as your comment about split second, I am going to have to seriously disagree with you there. While it is a fun game, Blur is a much better, more well-rounded game that has an awesome online multiplayer experience. Even coming in last place you still have a shitload of fun. Perhaps you should try it out sometime.

The game was some of the best $57 I spent. I absolutely love it and completely addicted to it. Yes the loading sucks and the A.I. can be a pain, but definitely lots of fun and the best kart racer IMO (I do like the game better than LBP).

Played the demo and didn't like it. Too bad you wasted your money on that.

My copy is coming tomorrow. Not too worried about the load times, as I am sure they will patch that up and fix it by a large degree. Wasn't terribly convinced by the demo, but I had a bunch of game credit to use and I need a good cart racer. As for Split/Second though, I can't recommend it with blur being out at the same time. Blur is a much better game.
Dang... mandatory 3 GB install? Even without any loading issues, that would be ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure my last DBZ game had a 3gig install. Or maybe it was Folklore.

Load times aren't and issue to me, but I don't play for looong hours so I don't have to face many.

Shield button ing rocks!!

Didn't the ads say that those characters were pre-order only, or at least tell you to go to the site which said as much?

I must say that I do love this game. I hate the load times but there is a update already in the works to cut the load times down. I'm not defending it in that sense because it should have had quicker load times out of the box with a 3gb install. Other then that I'm having a blast with it working my way through career. Haven't modded anything yet since I want to collect all the pieces first.

Load times are ass! The racing seems simple and easy, I don't feel like I'm going fast or even moving over terrain. Feels like you're floating and the turning I'm not a fan of. To me, besides the ability to create things, the game feels like a wii shovel ware game. I had more fun in m&m cart racing...

Also have to say that Blur is a frickin' awesome game. Picked it up at my local Kmart for the 40 bucks this week (with chrome BMW bonus). However I will defintely be buying Modnation later on when it drops in price...worth it to me just for the track editor alone
