PlayStation Plus - Thoughts from those who bought it?

I'm an avid PlayStation fan so I decided to buy PlayStation Plus when it became available last week. Although I don't personally care about cross-game voice chat, it was disappointing to see it not yet included. Now people are saying that it was never formally announced and might not be coming? There are other features that sound interesting but have yet to make an impression.

Automatic downloads and updates sound great but I haven't yet seen this in action. I turned the feature on in my system settings but so far it hasn't updated any of my games that require an update nor has it downloaded any demos. Is this a feature that only happens once a week at the scheduled time or am I doing something wrong...? I was hoping to be able to log into my account on PlayStation.com and set demos to download on my PS3 similar to the feature on xbox Live.

The free PSN game each month is nice and it will be interesting to see how this is handled. Will these games be newly released games or older games (which many Plus members might already have). The discounts and other bonus content are nice perks as well but probably don't offer a true incentive for people to buy.

So I know none of this is anything knew to be brought up but was interested in peoples thoughts who also bought PlayStation Plus. What made you buy? What are you hoping for?

Free PS1 Classics that are, indeed, classics. Also, they added some more stuff today so be sure to check it out. I hope they continue to add stuff every week.

yea i got it day 1, and so far im liking the game "age of zombies", that game has my family hooked, havent really noticed anything special yet...im hoping it will only get better
The download update thing works. I had the playstation home and 1 game updated. When the update was available, the system did it. I'm sure most of the games you currently play jsut don't need the updates. Otherwise, I am very happy with the service and i downloaded Infamous (not for any bonus price but b/c its a great game. The game runs faster and better fully isntalled on the system. Finally, though I'm sure there will be a few free games i already have, it's a real treat to basically get a free game per week. I look forward to the continuing growth to plus and hope that playstation moves to a blanket discount rather than only offering a few select items for sale. No buyers remorse here, but you can always ask for more. If cross game chat comes to the ps3, i will likely trade in my 360.
Feeling a little buyer's remorse over here, though I realize it's early on. Rally Cross is nearly unplayable, and not a huge fan of tower defense, so Fieldrunners isn't my thing. Age of Zombies is a decent time waster but little else.

Wipeout HD is pretty fun, and I did buy Rampage at the discounted price, but my enthusiasm for this was short lived. You'd think Sony would want to put their best foot forward and include something really special like they did with the European launch (LBP free, forever, regardless of membership status).

If there are enough discounts and you buy a lot of games, it could essentially pay for itself. But the 'games are yours as long as you subscribe' is kind of BS. At least, they should let you keep your top 3 favorites out of the once-a-month freebies.

I am afraid that PSN plus is playing catch up with Xbox live, With Xbox live your subscription pays for everything while normal PSN is free and think of the bandwidth prices that it is costing them for free online play. First Home was interduced to try and make money and now this, I think reasons like this are going to go to the next generation first and not because of the failure of 3d or Move

@mitch079
I checked out the update and ended up liking Field Runners a lot. I didn't think I would so I'm glad it got on Plus for free.

@yesiamaplant
I didn't think I liked tower defense games either but Field Runners is actually a very fun and addicting game. I never would have bought or played it before so I'm glad it was a Plus game. It is a great game to have on my PSP as well.

@aleraiders
I agree, Age of Zombies is a great mini! I already owned it before Plus, tho. I'm hoping for more "special" things later as well.

@johnnypark
I don't mind the fact that you can only play the games for as long as you are a Plus member since I don't find myself going back and playing too many games that I purchased over a year ago.

@evanom
Interesting thoughts. I don't see PSN Plus playing catch up to Xbox Live. Plus seems to be more focused on additional content (games, avatars, themes, Qore) rather than features. It seems like the Live subscription tiers are built from added features (online gaming, party system). It sounds like you are already thinking 3D and Move are going to be failures. I actually wasn't fond of 3D gaming (or movies) but I had a chance to play Motorstorm in 3D at a Sony store and it was a lot better and more fun than I thought it would be.
