College Chronicles - The Trip to Seattle

So for the past week I've been in Seattle because of a marching band trip, and I must say I do love that city.

The trip started with a 30 hours bus ride from Minnesota all the way to Seattle, Washington...Needless to say it was unbearable, I don't see how people can sleep in those damn coach buses. Every time I tried I'd end up sore after waking up. Anyway...

Once we arrived at Seattle, we were given a couple hours to grab dinner and explore the town, because our hotel was about 2 blocks from the Seattle center me and a couple friends decided to go explore.

Now the Seattle Center is pretty cool, it has the Space Needle, some shops, an arcade, and for this weekend only....THE INTERNATIONAL BEER FEST! Sadly, despite our best attempts to sneak in there (I'm only 18 ) we were unable to enter this fun looking place. What I did get to see was a plethora of drunk people doing some pretty funny things. As my friends and I walked through the arcade and the shops, we'd constantly hear yelling followed by glass breaking from the area that was sectioned off for the beer fest...It was rather interesting.

The following days were spent exploring Seattle while going to Mt. Reinier, Tillicum Village in Puget Sound, and two Fourth of July parades in Edmond( I think) and Burien. I must say though people from Washington really get excited over marching band. Both of these were somewhat small towns but we wouldn't even be playing and they'd be cheering and yelling and just being the nicest crowd ever. All except for one guy.....

This was near the end of one parade route, as I'm marching I hear someone yell "THE SEAHAWKS ARE GONNA KICK THE VIKINGS ASS!!! WELCOME TO SEATTLE." I thought it was hilarious and I really wanted to yell back "I'M A PACKERS FAN SO SUCK IT." But I couldn't break attention since we're a military style band.

All in all, between the raves that occurred in the bus, to the dance party with the south american band in the Seattle Center, to playing at the Mariner's game, it was a damn good trip. If you haven't been to Seattle, I recommend you go there for vacation one day. It's a very nice town.

The weather has been really nice here over the last week. Hopefully you got to enjoy some of it while you were here.

Sounds fun. What instrument do you play? I play Alto Sax :3

@AlexLeSage

Unfortunately due to some stupid rule because I'm in choir, I can't participate in anything that relates to an instrument (even though I also play tenor sax and I'm pretty sure I could do drumline) so I'm in the honor guard which is essentially the front of the marching band.

@DV8 Yeah I loved the weather, I went running everyday and it was just amazing. Plus when I went to Mt. Rainier, I got to see and play with snow...I miss snow...
Sounds like a really interesting trip. I was in band, but this was before high school, so I never got to do much. I remember going to one competition outside of our city and other than that, we just did little performances. I know we had a competition each year (it was more or less a fundtraiser). But, that was about it, I never got to do any of the more exciting trips and things.

Seattle seems like a great place, I've always wanted to go, but haven't made it there yet. Some day

Oddly enough, I was in Seattle the same time you were. I was staying in Port Townsend and kept taking the ferry to Seattle, so I actually saw the crowd getting ready for the parades.

Also, the arcade was awesome. But I was kinda mad because i didn't know they had one of the elusive F-Zero AX machines or I would have brought my memory card. Of course, the boost and attack buttons seemed broke, so I kept losing all the races I tried anyway...
