For those of you who have been following my blog posts (No, I don't expect any of you to have actually followed), I have been looking for an outlet to share my writing "talents" to the world. However, I've been having poor luck trying to actually get ahold of anyone.
That's why I've decided to finally buckle down and start a music blog myself. Titled Music Malfunction, it will be an outlet to review music and write articles based on topics I (or any potential writers) may wish to cover. It will start very small, with maybe one article a day and a full review every two days, but I plan on using this opportunity to potentially build something that has a shot of being noticed by people. Not on a wide level necessarily, but enough to one day get to the point where there will be two dozen reviews and articles going up weekly, and over one hundred people viewing them daily. That's a goal. Now how will I do this? I have two plans. The first is obvious. I will soon be launching website contests for things such as XBOX Live and iTunes cards. Easy enough to draw a bit of traffic to start the site off. The second is why I decided to post this blog. I am looking for people to help build the blog from the start, to help it become something at a rate one unknown person couldn't do alone. If there are 2-3 people spreading links, 2-3 people posting content, and 2-3 people collaborating to make the blog a better place to spend time at, I feel like the entire building process could go faster than we would think. http://musicmalfunction.blogspot.com/ Take a look around, see if my writing style is quality enough to work with, and PM me if music blogging is something you might be interested in. If it isn't, I would still appreciate it if you took a look around and left comments as feedback. I have a few articles I'm working on which will be put up very soon, and a brand new review that should be up tomorrow at noonish, so check back. Thanks, Alex |

I didn't want to post this directly on musicmalfuntion blog since I'm neither a writer nor a reviewer. I just read the review for Darius Tucker. What did you mean by this? "...it almost sounds like you are listening to a loosely-related series of songs instead of a record." Writing a record that is cohesive can be difficult to do, but perhaps that isn't what Tucker is attempting. Its not a country concept album, is it? I would describe a lot of records in general as loosely-related songs. Also you mention "neat accompanying lyrics," but don't say what they are. Are you trying to avoid sampling lyrics? Once you said they were neat I was wondering how the lyrics went. Ultimately though, I don't like country music and was never a fan of Hootie, so my questions aren't really important, but my point is if the reader were interested these question might be important.

Aha, the comment would have probably been appreciated. Those are intended for the reader, my good man.
You have a good point, I do need to reference actual lyrics in my reviews more. That review was from early January this year, so I have gotten my criticism more refined since then. As far as the first quote goes, I was referring to the flow of the album. Many good albums I hear usually have the songs flow in relation to the artists emotions at the time of the writing/recording. This is important because it allows an album to be listened to as one piece of work. Without any real emotion or style connecting the songs, we are essentially given a compilation album of original recordings instead of a new album. |

Music is very biased, how will you manage to review it?
