I recently decided to purchase a Samsung 55 inch LED 3D TV on Amazon for 2,500. It came with a 3d Blu ray player and a 3d kit with 2 sets of glasses and the movie Monsters vs Aliens 3D. It just came in today so I wanted to post my experiences.
As you can see from the picture I made a nice increase from a 42 inch 720p plasma Panasonic to the 1080p 55 inch LED Samsung. My Panasonic weighs in at 75 lbs where the new Samsung is 50 lbs. The clarity of the picture is just beautiful. I really believe after walking around CompUSA that Samsung puts out the clearest picture. I started by testing out a computer hooked to it. I watched some Starcraft 2, and some episodes of anime. Everything looked brighter and clearer on the new TV. Then I eagerly tested out the blu ray player. I watched Monsters vs Aliens. It was my first time seeing the movie. The 3d was amazing on it. I particularly liked the space scenes which makes me long for some educational blu rays in 3D ala IMAX series. Then it was time for me to fiddle with the Samsung apps. Pandora radio was my favorite though I'm sure I'll be enjoying me some netflix too (though I can always watch netflix on my xbox). I find it funny that the 350 dollar blu ray player comes with wireless access where the TV does not and you would have to by a 70 dollar adapter to make it wireless. Lastly, it was some 3D gaming. After some major tweaking to the settings and trying to get it to work in 3D, I finally managed to get Avatar the PS3 game to work in 3D. Oh it is beautiful. It seems to have some moments of after imaging (but I could have the settings still off). But it is amazing. I love the just scenic traveling through the world. Of course I am more of a watcher as my boyfriend plays but the 3d certainly makes it more entertaining. The way the wolves come at you makes me think of Resident Evil in 3D, now that is going to be epic. Again I'll play bystander to that one. I tried one more game and that was the demo to Super Stardust. I don't know if I had the settings right because the 3D was very minimal. It was cool, being all spacey but still not worth the eyestrain. My eyes were more accustomed to the strain being that I wear glasses but all the 3D really wore on my boyfriend. I can't imagine long days of playing in 3D. Overall, my Samsung has impressed me and I can't wait to have more 3D movies and games. It was well worth the money for the upgrade alone. |

The TV has Pandora built into it? That's amazing. I've got an older model (old as in.. two years old lol) and all it can do is news/weather/etc.
You have to buy an adapter to make it wireless though? That's lame. Was it worth it? I'm on the fence about ordering a 3DTV. |

I made a big upgrade so it was worth it to me.
The blu ray player is actually what I'm using for Pandora because it has the wireless built in. I didn't wanna buy the adapter. 3D is not at all widespread. November seems to be when we'll see more. There's a whole one 3D blu ray movie available for purchase (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs). The rest are exclusive to the different tv packages (Coraline, Ice Age 3, IMAX Into the Deep and Monsters vs Aliens). I actually heard rumor Avatar is going to be exclusive and if it is I'm going to be PISSED. I really purchased it because of the bonuses of getting the free 3d blu ray player and 3d kit. Gaming seems like it is going to pick up quickly. I already see 4 3D demos on PS3 network. |

I almost picked one of these units up, thanks for your thoughts on it. Honestly what kept me from picking it up was that I didn't want there to be any compatibility problems(not that I was expecting any) with my PS3 so I'm just going to wait for the Sony TVs to be available in my area for a decent price. I anticipate picking one up by June of next year at the latest.

I'm going to assume you don't care for baseball, but if MLB The Show looks amazing without 3D, with 3D would just be... mindblowing.

I just saw that tv and it has me very tempted to buy a new tv, again. Unfortunately, I couldn't get anyone to help me so I could actually experience the 3D but the look of the tv and everything looked amazing. I'm planning to try to go back and get the glasses to try it, though I should probably avoid it to be safe.
I definitely agree Samsung has some of the nicest quality tvs. I was wanting to get Samsung when I upgraded, but the tv I wanted was never available and I finally gave up trying... I kind of wish I had waited now. I'm amazed at how much the led prices have come downl last year, around this time when I was looking it was nearly double the price of a plasma to get led for a fraction of the size. LED looks so amazing I may just nave to upgrade again. Looking forward to hearing more about our experiences with the tv.... It looks amazing by the way! |

I still have my old SDTV... :( But if I''m gonna upgrade (probably by next year), then it will be a 3dTV hands down.

I got this same TV and it is awesome! The 3D doesn't strain my eyes, thankfully. I think Motorstorm is the best 3D demo.
I wasn't a fan of 3D gaming until I played the 3D demos off of the PSN. The 3D is a lot more fun than I thought it would be! Congrats on the new TV! |

I just bought the PN50C7000(plasma) It's awesome. I got the same deal you did, Amazon ftw. The blacks on the set are amazing, no input lag for gaming I'm very happy so far, and I haven't even touched the 3D yet.

One of the coolest things about the Avatar game was you could play with the 3D settings on the options. So I could modify the intensity of the 3D ala the slider bar of the 3DS. I put the intensity all the way up and I was blown away. There was no way I could play the game like that though. So I settled for 1.5, which is noticeable but not kill your brain 3D.
I would have never bought the Avatar game if it wasn't for the 3D and I had no idea about the 3D until I was looking in Amazon's 3D section for games. I also didn't know the Sly trilogy will have Sly 3 in 3D. It's funny how a new technology makes you buy shit you wouldn't normally want :P |
