I HATE seeing games, movies, CDs, etc. out of their original cases

While people are probably not surprised I feel this way, it's definitely a pretty big thing to me. Basically, when it comes to video games, movies (on DVD, Blu-ray, etc.), music CDs, and what not, I MUST see them in their original case unless being played. Once the media is finished, I NEVER want to see it left in the device that plays it. I feel the need to keep everything on a shelf, in alphabetical order, when not used.
To better explain this, one (if not the biggest) pet peeve of mine is when I go over to someone's place and check out their games. I look inside LittleBigPlanet case for an example, but I see a copy of Resistance 2 inside. Whenever I see that, I feel like something just died inside of me. I just see it as a sin to put things back in the incorrect case. There were times where I searched through all my friends media, making sure everything goes back in the original cases. Seriously, I don't understand how people can put things back in a different case (unless they lost it). I figure if someone has the energy to put something back in a case, it should go back in the RIGHT one. I also HIGHLY dislike it when someone leaves DVDs, CDs, games, etc. out a case and have them stacked on top of a table. That can get a disc scratched, all dusty, and so on. I use to hate how my sister did that, so I would put everything back in the correct case so I'd feel better. Laying media on the floor is even worse, but thankfully I rarely see anyone do that. I also hate the idea of leaving games in a console (same thing with leaving a DVD in a player). If I moved the device, the disc could shake around, get scratched up for being moved, or it could autostart with it (plus you don't always know if something is inside of it. I next to never leave media in a device because I feel when its not being played, it should be placed back in the proper case. While this somewhat relates to the topic, I'm also very anal on wanting EVERY single video game complete (unless its an old cartridge). Missing any item drives me crazy because it ruins the look of my collection. I even more so hate it when something does NOT come in its original case (such as Xbox games in a black Blockbuster case, PS3 games in a black GS case, etc.). I have drove around to SEVERAL GameStop locations before looking for a complete copy of a game. I rarely order online unless I know exactly what I'm getting because having a complete copy is very important. Oh well, this is just another one of my OCDs. Anyone else really care about their media remaining in their respective cases when not being used? The ONLY exception I have is when I travel, where I'll carry games in a UMD case, DVD wallet, etc. |

I'm with you on putting games in their cases when not in use. I can't stand that crap. I won't let certain friends borrow games due to this reason.
I try to keep my games in alphabetical order, but I gave up since my kid has started playing. She tries her best, but until she really learns to read it won't work. As for you checking out your friends collection and finding a different game, unless you ask or I give you permission to look through my collection you touch anything in my room I'll break your arms, goes for the kid as well. She has two shelves in my room she can touch and her own controller, anything else is off limits. |

I agree with you on a few things however I tend to leave whatever I've been playing in my console. Much easier then finding it next time I want to play. I have all my disc based items in alphabetical order. It looks 10x better.
For my cartridge games I tend to put them in order of how much I like them more then anything as I have a lot of crap on cartridge. It also annoys the crap out of me if I get a game disc only or in a crappy black case so I try and avoid buying those unless their like a dollar at a yard sale. |

I'm with you on this one with the exception that dodgeme had that whatever game I'm currently playing I just leave in the console (same goes for dvd box sets), I just leave the empty cases next to the console.
The only thing that might be weird for me is that in my living room I have my backlog, they are in the order I intend to play them so it's very random. In my bedroom closet is the rest of my games in alphabetical order by system by release date. With the exception of GBA/DS games being at the top. (My old GB/GBC games had to be retired to storage boxes due to space constraints). One of thing that bothers me that I was just thinking of, is that I have my DVD's in order as well and numbers go at the beginning. Numbers DO NOT go where their alphabetical equivalent would be... I.E. my friends have the movie 300 in with the T's and it upsets me dearly. |

I hate it when EBgames opens the game themselves and sell it to you as new :|

I don't. It use to bother me. When you get to the bottom of everything and being broke. You don't care anymore as long as the game works.

@TMK
I agree with you on games. I have to see the game in the case (plus manual) when the game is not in use. I guess I am about having everything complete. |

Boy, you all have way too much time on your hands to worry about something as trivial as this. I almost always leave my CDs/DVDs/Games in the player until I'm ready to switch them out. Moreover, when I usually remove a disc to play a different one, I'll put the disc that was in the player into the case of the new disc I'm inserting. (e.g. I took RB2 out of my 360 to watch Four Christmases and placed the RB2 disc in the Four Christmases case)
It doesnt matter a lick to me if everything is in it's right case all the time. And 75% of the time, my CDs are never in a case at all. Either they are in a CD wallet, in a player, somewhere in my car, double/triple stacked in a random jewel case on lying around looking like a coaster. It just doesnt matter to me. I think in the 17 years I've owned CDs, I've had three scratched to unplayability. Ironically, those were three I routinely kept in a CD wallet type case. A little quick buff with a no-lint cloth and they all play w/o skipping. I'm a little "better" with video games as I have a dedicated place where I play and store them. But in no way to I obsess over it. |

I like my games in cases when they are not being used, as well. However, I don't mind leaving a disk based game inside the console at all, but my consoles virtually never move at all. I hate scratched disks as well.

I know what you mean. I love knowing all my games are complete on the shelf and everything is alphabetical order. Not only does it make it easier to find things, but it just looks so nice.
My brother used to play a Gamecube game and then leave it in the system. When he was done he would take that game out, get ten next game he was going to play and put the other game back in that case. I would go to play something and have go through all his games to find it.... But, if I asked his where the game was, he, somehow, always knew which case it would be in. I can't stand seeing games and stuff left out of their boxes on the table, floor etc, but then we have always had pets and leaving stuff out like that was just asking for trouble. It would still make me nervous of it getting ruined though. I also try to buy all my games complete. If it is a disc based game I only buy them complete, if it is a cartridge game, except ds, I will buy it without it being complete. But I still print my own covers and put them in cases to make it look better. I don't keep games in the system, I always take them out and put them back in the case when I'm done. The only exception is ds games, I like to keep one game in the ds to prevent dust from getting in. I also keep my ds games in a multiple game case. When I take the ds on the go it is nice to have several games, plus I just like how they look. So all my ds games are in cases and their original cases are on the shelf. |

I keep my games and movies in their correct case. I don't however, make sure to take my discs out of the player, unless I'm not going to use it for a long time.

I'm with you Mana, I have a real problem with even the slightest scratch on the discs as well. So much so I don't buy Used games unless it is a game I'm not going to be keeping very long and it is an extremely good deal and I know I'll get a "complete" game when it is all said in done, but it still bothers me.

i just don't have the shelf space to do that, so i keep all my discs in a wallet and put the cases in storage bins.

It's not a big deal,it's just video games and dvds, not like they are medical records, or some first print edition of War & Peace. Then in 5-10 years time your going to just dump them in the trash since you won't even be able to give them away.
