Why Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 might not be as good as you think

This is coming from a 360 owner who finished both the first and second Mass Effect games.
I am not disappointed at it being released for the PS3 im not that type of fanboy. However I am very annoyed that they will not be releasing the first game. Why you might ask? Well it means that none of my decisions from the first game will carry over to Mass Effect 3. On of the best parts of mass effect 2 was seeing how my decisions changed the universe. Mass Effect 3 will have much less of that because Mass Effect 1 is not going to be released on PS3. Your thoughts |

Isn't it more reasonable to expect that all of your decisions from Mass Effect 2 will be transitioned (since we can all play that game) and the PS3 players of Mass Effect 3 will all have the same decision results from Mass Effect 1. I doubt Bioware will throw away the whole mechanic, when it is just easier to make them static options for the PS3 owners.

A lot of people enjoyed ME2 on PC without playing ME1.
Of course the speculation is the bonus stuff for PS3 might include an interactive movie of the events of ME1 that will allow you make those decisions or some type of personality quiz that will roll them for you.l |

Mass Effect 2 (even without Mass Effect 1) > No Mass Effect at all.

I actually prefer this. I want to get all the story of Mass Effect 1 without actually playing it because it does not look like a good game.

I am going to have to agree with Ecofreak.

Agree with Ecofreak, considering ME is supposed to be a good series.
I heard they will include some kind of system where you can recap the 1st story and you can make some decisions. |

@jrsmaster411, Then you probably don't want to play Mass Effect 2 either because sequels tend to be... you know, like the first one.

@advanced
I'd have to disagree. ME1 and ME2 are almost completely different games. I know alot of people who absolutely hated ME1 but loved ME2. Simply put, ME1 is an rpg with some action elements while ME2 is an action game with some rpg elements. |

It sucks that PS3 owners won't be able to experience the entire trilogy, but it's a great thing that it's coming over to their console.
Personally (since I have both a 360 and a PS3), I'm looking forward to picking it up next January IF they include additional content not found on the 360. I tried going through on the Insanity mode, but I'd rather play through again on the normal setting. |

@ MIGGO
That would piss me off sooooooooo much!!! I hate when they do that!! It makes me not want to buy the game immediately because I feel like it might get exclusive content down the road. |

Yea, but it would be the only way in my mind that they could make up for missing Mass Effect 1. I'm attached to my Shepard and the decisions I've made from day one. That's what makes the 360 version superior to the PS3 version...BUT if that extra content that was mentioned means exclusive missions and not just free DLC available on the disc, then I wouldn't mind playing through the game on both consoles.
I've got my eye on this one, I'm curious to see what they do with it. |

Supposedly, you will be able to use your PC Mass Effect save with the PS# version of Mass Effect 2. At least that is what the rumor mill has been saying...

They indicate that there will be some sort of "fill in the gap" narrative before the game starts. Based on my knowledge of the various decision points from ME1, it seems possible that the narrative before the game could easily be configured to include those as decisioning points as well. Like a choose your own adventure intro or something. It's not outrageous for a game to have a huge introductory backstory (Yakuza).

Seeing as how I have PS3/360/PC (I played ME 1 and 2 on PC), I don't really have a biased opinion here. That out of the way, I must say that the implementation of importing your story and status from the first game to the second was gimmicky and overhyped. Sure, I ran into very minor characters from the story of my first game and that opened up a few dialog trees, but ultimately I felt like it had ZERO impact on the overall story.
I honestly don't think PS3 fans will miss a beat but just jumping into 2 without playing the first game. There are wiki articles and 5 minute videos that show you what happened in the first game. And quite frankly, after experience ME2, ME1 was a totally forgettable experience. |
