When will Soccer get the respect it deserves in the United States?

I had plans tonight to sit at home and watch the Chicago Fire game. But I just find out that the end of the game will most likely be cut off just because the White Sox game got rained out last night and end of the soccer game will be on a channel I don't get. What kind of screwed up country do we live in when more people would rather watch a game that is only exciting for probably half hour the entire game then "the beautiful game"?

What is this "soccer" you speak of? Oh wait, nevermind. The Braves game just started.

Never? Because American's can't appreciate sports beyond football and baseball. I wish soccer and rugby were bigger here.

It gets exactly level of respect it deserves right now.

NEVER! And this is from someone who loves soccer. The game is not American enough.

I'll be a fan when they stop being pussies and pretending to get hurt when they don't even get touched.

It won't. Seriously soccer is fine but I don't see the appeal when you compare it to American Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey.
It just wont. I can't understand why its so damn popular everywhere else. Watching the World Cups it seems like a lot of people taking dives and flopping with very little action (again that is during the TOP TIER the sport has to offer) |

When they are allowed to use their hands?
Soccer may be a great sport to play, but it's boring to tears to watch for a casual fan. The only thing that's perhaps more exciting that more 'traditional American' sports is the Spanish-language announcers. |

Soccer is only exciting during penalty kicks. Everything else is pretty boring. Also, the acting that happens in the NBA and NFL to get a foul called doesn't even compare to Soccer. It's terrible.

I doubt it ever will.

Football and Baseball are much more entertaining and soccer does get played -- and on ESPN of all things.

Because soccer players are pussies/bitches. Especially Italy.

At least they actually play in the rain rather than calling it a night and playing the next day. And I can see the argue for football but come on baseball? I'm watching it right now just hoping it gets a rain delay so i can watch the soccer game in it's entirety

Yea baseball is almost as boring as golf.

I played soccer as a kid and while it's a fun game if you participate, it's the drizzling shits to watch. Almost as bad as baseball.

Yeah, soccer is not really my thing, "beautiful" or not. A game that lasts that long and very often comes out with no winner is a waste of time to me.

once the larger networks actually televise games on prime time. From a network standpoint it makes sense for them not to though. Advertisements are a huge revenue for stations and other sports/shows have a much larger audience in the us than soccer.

Does the US need more distractions for its citizens?

Dude, you are in the wrong country. Move to any country in South America and you will be sick of soccer in a week.

I'm a big fan of sports and I really want to like soccer. But everytime I watch a game, everyone tries to dive like the field is a swimming pool. So I go back to watching manly sports.
