Shameless Animal Cruelty

In 2007, artist Guillermo Vargas tied a starving, sick street dog to a rope in an art gallery and seemingly starved him to death while people looked on. He considered this his artistic masterpiece. Worse yet, he has been invited to do it again this year at the Bienal Honduras art exhibition! The original exhibit lasted for several days, with visitors coldly watching on as the dog, who clearly needed medical attention, food, water and love-- withered away. The dog eventually died, widely assumed to be because of starvation (the gallery disputes this, claiming the dog was killed by other dogs!). But this is not all – the Arts Biennial of Central America (in Honduras) has invited Vargas to repeat this cruelty in 2008 in his exhibition at the biennial. My take on this:This is just as bad as raping a woman in an exposition and they call it art. If I had the power I'd crucify that guy on wall street so everyone sees and I'd write art on him with dog poo. Sorry , I'm not an activist or anything but this is just shameless. I find animal cruelty disgusting and sickening. If you kill animals for food or clothing (?????) it's acceptable I guess. This is so wrong on so many levels... |

If you read the wikipedia entry about this man, it is reported that the dog was fed everyday. But if the dog was already starved then feeding it isnt enough. It would have needed medical attention, which they neglected to provide, placing them well within blame for the dogs death.

This is very sad ... I read this while my pooch (in my avatar) lies at my feet sleeping. What if your lost dog was taken in by this "artist?"

I've heard of some pretty sick mistreatment of animals, including one involving an oven, but this by far takes the cake.
I'll say to this the same thing I've said to the others; Bet they wouldn't find it as "cool" (or in this case "artistic") if it happened to them or another human being. |

Phyro- The guys a nut. I heard he posted in his myspace that dog died. If they will do that again this year I don't know what I'm gonna do.
PS: Thanls everyone , just by reading this story your doing me a favor. Spread the word to other people and maybe fortunately someone with power will hear and punish the guy severely. |

It's not a contest but there's some much more horrific cruelties happening in some asian nations. Google it if you want to know more...

This is sick but what is worse the so called artist or the onlookers that consider this art/entertainment?

This story is fake.
"According to local animal welfare organizations, the dog was in a state of starvation when he was captured from the street for display in the exhibit—not unlike millions of other street dogs in developing countries. HSI has been informed that the dog spent one day in the exhibit and later escaped the gallery." http://www.hsus.org/about_us/humane_...art_42308.html |

From what I've read it was done to bring attention to starving street dogs and to help them. The dog was fed and cared for while exhibited.
