Scary Night.

On Labor Day my son had a febrile seizure. It was brought on by a sudden rise in temperature that spikes in a short amount of time. We were at the movies when my mother in law called my wife, and had to rush from the theater to the hospital. I can tell you the short 10-15 min car ride from the theater to the hospital was probably the scariest thing I have ever done. Not knowing what was happening at that time and just knowing my son had a seizure and was taken by ambulance to the hospital about did it for me.
After getting there the doctor explained to us that the situation was ok, that he was going to be ok, and this type of seizure is not uncommon in younger children. Also that it won't stunt his development in anyway, it was a relif hearing that. Now my little guy is doing great, seems better than ever but I don't ever want or wish anyone to have to experience the feeling that I felt at that time. |

Yeah, that definitely scary. My daughter had that when she was almost 1 and my wife and I were freaking out. It really is scary to see them seizing. One second fine, and the next just shaking and limp. Glad everything was ok.

Glad to hear your son is doing okay. I know I would be freaking out if this happened to my daughter.

That happened to my son when he was 2. It was quite possibly the scariest moment of my life. After that, we figured out that because he was getting bigger children's tylenol was no longer powerful enough to effectively treat his fevers. Children's Motrin is the way to go. He was fine afterwards and the doctor assured us that it was common and should be an isolated incident. But man I feel ya. Scary as hell.

Shite man I am glad everything is alright. I remember one time my son had a reflux attack, he began to throw up and wouldnt stop after awhile he had nothing left in him and just kept making that body motion. Scariest part was siting there in the hospital with him hooked up to ivies to replenish his body.
Those first 3 years of his life was just a roller coaster ride of concerns and fears. |

Sounds scary, but I'm glad everything's okay. This whole parenting thing looks like quite a ride.

My 2yr old had a seizure that lasted ~40 minutes!!!! (for those of you who don't know ~15 minutes is considered a LONG time for a seizure). Scariest thing in the world and had no idea it could happen.
Of course after the fact it turns out it runs in the family... why don't they tell you these things BEFORE so you can prepare your self. Anyway, she's a perfectly fine almost 4yr old now. |

Glad your kid is ok. That had to be a totally horrifying experience that I hope I never have to deal with. I hope all continues to be well and you don't have to go through any thing like that again.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I was wondering what was going on when I heard something happen. I'm glad everything is all right now and I hope it does not happen again.

I had a seizure apparently when I was 4...no idea what kind maybe something similar? It was a one time deal, but my Mom still almost cries when she tells the story.
She also apparently put a chopstick in my mouth so I wouldn't bite my tongue off. |

Very sorry to hear about the scare DBJ, but thankfully he is fine. Luckily, we have not had anything quite as scary (everything that happens to Ryu is self inflicted anyway), so I can't imagine what it would be like to see him have a seizure.
Thanks goodness everything worked out in the end! |
