Congrats on the pickup. I have a 1st gen 16GB version that I bought a month after it came out for $400. I kinda regret spending that much, but I use it every day for watching movies, playing games, and of course, listening to music.

Very nice. I just bought my brother an iPod Touch in February after getting one for myself a few years and loving it. I kind of wish I had waited now because the upgrade was pretty huge. I'm sure you will have a blast with it.
I bought an iPad a little over a month ago, so I don't use my iPod Touch as often now, but it still works great when I want something a little more portable. I kind of want to get one of the new iPods since I think they are all really cool now, but I don't really need one at the moment... plus, I don't think I could decide on which one I wanted There are two websites, I don't have them with me now, but they are along the lines of openfeint.com and freeipodapps.com that I have been using for a few weeks now and have found several really great games. Open Feint is probably my favorite of the two, but they are both great. When I get the sites actual address I will come back and post them. Enjoy your new iPod, I didn't put mine down for weeks after buying it. |

I got my first iPod Touch via Square Enix Members rewards. I must admit that I was hesitant at first about it but after using it for a while I love it. Definitely might look at getting a newer one with the bigger HD somewhere down the line.
Also speaking of Apple stuff. I got an iPad this weekend |

I bought myself one at the beginning of the year, I was waiting for this one to come out but couldn't wait. So I guess I am gonna cell my old one to get this, if not i may give it away to my sister for her birthday ha ha.
BTW I don't dig the still photos being (960 x 720) but that is nice cause you don't need to carry around your camera all times. |

The iPod touch does a good job of HD video, though, not unlike the iPhone 4. So think of it as a good portable HD video camera and you likely won't be disappointed in it's lacklusterness as a still camera. Plus there's facetime. Anyway, I've got an iPhone 4 and love it. I want to get an iPad, but I'm so use to the Retina display that the iPad display looks too pixely for me. I'm hoping we'll get a higher DPI, and preferably slightly smaller, iPad. There were rumors of a 7" iPad, but not sure if that's more then a rumor. Hopefully it also includes a front facing camera, which seems a likely upgrade.

My headphone jack on my touch just screwed up about 2 days ago and only plays from the right speaker (Headphones) and won't output to the left. It's like $60+ to get it fixed from iresq. I'm thinking about just throwing it on Ebay and taking what I get from that and buying a new 4th Gen one....just so expensive.

@iKilledChewbacca, you may want to look into something like a skin protector. I have used BodyGuardz on all the iPod Touch's in my family, phones, my iPad, etc. and I really like them. It is nice being able to have protection, but not having to deal with cases. I've tried the clear cases, silicone cases, etc. but you still have to be really careful because dirt can get in them and scratch the iPod anyway, plus you have the extra bulk of the case. When I got my iPod I was so impressed by the small size, I decided to just to a skin to keep it as small as possible. There are a lot of brands out there, I've only tried BodyGuardz and have been pretty happy with it, but I know there are other good ones as well.
@mission42, have you tried a different pair of headphones? If I remember correctly, some people had this issue on the second gen, and possibly others. I turned out that the problem was with the headphones and not the iPod itself. It may not be the case for you, but something to check if you haven't already. |

Apple does make the worst earbuds known to man so that may just be the issue. I really want one of these but Apple always kills me with its prices on every product it puts out.

@integrals - mission42 is talking about an older iPod touch. I.e. he's saying the headphone jack failed. Not that the stock headphones aren't crap, mind you.

Sorry it took so lont go get these to you, but these are the two sites I use to find out about apps that are available for free every day:
http://freeappalert.com/ http://www.openfeint.com/ They both offer some pretty decent apps each day. I typically download anything of interest and delete the ones I don't like... There are always a few not so great ones once and a while, but that isn't a big deal, at leapt to me. |
