In my last blog I posted about getting a ps3.My thinking in acquiring this besides blu-ray was it would get me out of this gaming slump I have been in almost all year it seems.I still play on steam from time to time with games like plants v.s. zombies and the new professor layton looks really good.To me I could care less about the new call of duty, have I lost my "hard core gamer"?Oh well has anyone else gone through this where you see yourself not liking your favorite games anymore.

I find myself in sort of an RPG slump, which is odd since I used to love them. When I was younger I played any and all RPGs I could find, eastern and western, didn't matter.

Then, I eventually grew out of JRPGs and for awhile played only non-JRPGs exclusively. Lately though, I find myself not having the motivation to play the likes of Oblivion and Fallout 3...I tell myself it's because I dislike first person RPGs but I know that's not entirely true because I find it hard to motivate myself to play Mass Effect and Dragon Age as well.

This is kind of weird to me because my brother has finished both multiple times while I have yet to finish either once, and when we were younger I was the one to be into RPGs, not him.

Yeah I believe every gamer goes through some type of slump. A few months back I had no urge to touch my 360 at all which worried me but I was rest assured by this community that it would come back Sure enough it did and I'm enjoying my 360 more then ever especially with Reach out tomorrow (well for those that couldn't make the midnight launch) You'll pull through it and your urge will come back again. For now just enjoy the more simple games that interest you and have fun.

I'm still in a slump myself, but getting out of it. Take the time to beat some games that you have on your backlog. That's how I'm killing time until the next big title I want comes out. I'm sure you'll get out of the slump soon though! Plenty coming out soon to look forward to.

i go thru phases where I dislike popular games but my favorites.. i still like. even if idon't have time to play them. I love RPGs, but since my ex erased my Baten Kaitos save once I haven't gotten back to it. I had invested hours into that game.. maybe 50+ and to start over was like a blow to the sternum

Nothing wrong with taking some time off from gaming. Buy a bike/motorcycle and go enjoy the outdoors.
I did this a lot a while back. After getting the SNES and playing it a lot for several years, I kind of stopped playing games. I think it was a combination of the fact I didn't have as much time because of school and things and I was also just bored with gaming. Then, a few years later when I started gaming again, I had some fun and then got bored again. I would go about a year in between playing games, only playing once or twice, if that much.

More recently, I've just been limiting myself more with my games. I find if I play games too much, i.e. for more than an hour at a time or something, I start getting bored with them. Last year I had a week or so where I was completely tired of games and had no desire to really play them. So, I just stopped playing, did some other things and eventually got over it.

What I've started going now is just limiting how much I play and also keeping a good variety of games so I don't get bored with one style. So, I was playing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Gamecube then after I played that I started playing Burnout Paradise to get some different gameplay. Now, I'm trying to work through my backlog so what I'm trying to do is complete a game and move on. However, I had a lot more work to do in Burnout than most of my games, so, I played it for two weeks and put it back to come back to down the road. I was having a lot of fun with the game and wouldn't mind playing some more, but I decided it was time to get a new style of gameplay going. Technically I should be playing Gran Turismo on the PS2 next, but since it is another driving game, I'm going to play Daxter instead.

So, I think the best thing to do (at least this is what works for me) is to not to spend too much time gaming. Limit yourself so it is more of a treat than something you get to do all the time and do other things you like with the time you normally would put in gaming. I still use the time for other gaming things, i.e. watching videos, reading news, magazines, etc. but I limit the actual gameplay so it doesn't become boring. Next, keep the gameplay fresh by playing new things. Playing the same thing over and over, no matter how much you like it, it will become boring after a while. Finally, if you are playing a game and don't like it, move on to something else. I have a hard time with this just because I am trying to work through my backlog and I keep playing games even when I don't like them. But, doing this can make you not want to play, so I think you are better off to just move on to something else that you do enjoy.

Finally, if you still find that your not enjoying the games you used to play, maybe try going for more casual games. You mentioned that you are playing Plants vs. Zombies and like the new Professor Layton game, but aren't really interested in Call of Duty. So, you may just be getting tired of the games you used to play. There are a lot of great casual games out there, most on the DS and Wii, so you may want to try more of those games and see if you don't enjoy switching genres a little bit.

Anyway, hope this helps. These are just a few things I have tried and have worked for me.
