Should I submit to hype? Cheap, cheap hype...

It's been awhile since I bought a retail game on launch or anywhere that isn't four or so months after release when the game is $20. Though once in awhile a game so hyped, so possibly blown out of proportion will come along and tempt me. Tempt me with the lure that "THIS MAY BE THE GAME THAT CHANGES YOUR LIFE!" That such and obvious game right now is Halo Reach.

Now here's the thing that is making me debate. One, is the Halo games have all been meh to me. As in they're alright, but no where near game of the year status and what not. They're really just nice minor distractions before moving onto something that attracts me more(oh Rock Band 3, why can't you be here now?). Two is I work retail and with that comes the Microsoft Expertzone discount where I can get the game new for $20 or $15 if I decide to wait until early next month when my membership gets upgraded. So do I dare submit to hype? Or should I keep on living with the only Halo game in my collection being Halo Wars?

As the immortal Public Enemy once said, "Don't believe, don't believe THE HYPE!"

@Evildeadjedi

They also said "Elvis was a hero to most. Elvis was a hero to most, but he never meant shit to me you see. Straight up racist that sucker was simple and plain. Mother him and John Wayne!" I Don't know what that has to do with anything, just wanted to add that.

Wait and get it cheap. Halo has always been about multiplayer and I really doubt the multiplayer is going to fall off in a month.

@bardockkun - Ah yes straight from "Fight The Power" they really did have some thought-provoking lyrics. Most hip-hop is no longer like that it's all about money, power and hoes.
I say wait. If you have never been all that impressed by the past games, I really don't think your opinion is going to be that different later. If I understood right you only have to wait a month and can get it for $15 or $20, then that definitely seems like the way to go.

If you don't have anything else to play right now, then it may be a little different. But, I think I would rather pick up three games than one because of the hype behind it.

I definitely know how you feel though. I don't even like Halo, but all the hype and excitement makes me want to play it
You should wait, we'll need more newbies to munch on later, we have enough right now. Thanks.

@Chronis, true, by then can possibly score a GOTY edition since in no rush if I care enough by then. I Guess I can wait it out.

@Evildeadjedi, as thought provoking as a crackhead with a giant clock can be. Though none the less better times for that genre.

@1Nintendofan, yeah I think I should learn from my mistakes in getting GTA4 on launchand just die down and see without buying into it. It's weird since I just never cared until reviews and everything just this week alone.

@kayatai, spoken like a douche bag...

@ bardockkun - Remember though, Chuck D wrote most the lyrics, FF was basically just the hype man to get the crowd fired up.

@Evildeadjedi. I Always find it weird that Chuck D basically wrote random shit for Flava Flav and said "Here go say this and it'll work." That or it only comes out that way because Flav is saying it, I don't know.
evildeadjedi's Avatar
@bardockkun - I think it's some of both cause yes it was random but, FF brought a very animated and entertaining performance with the lyrics that made them work for him. FF was made for those lyrics, I don't think it would have the same effect with anyone else.

@Evildeadjedi. Yeah, true, but still it's weird seeing that dynamic and looking at FF now with all the VH1 reality shows and what not. That and Chuck D. with his views saying he needs THAT GUY! Plus I love off topic conversations...

@bardockkun - Yes, it certainly is very strange though as they say opposites attract so it makes some sense.

So have you decided if you're going to just wait for a price drop or submit to the hype?
bardockkun's Avatar
@Evildeadjedi. I Can get it for $15 next month from Expertzone or $20 now, but I think I can wait it out. The backlog is overwhelming as is and I think enough people on my friends list are helping support this small game.

@bardockkun I would do the same in your situation. Ah yes it is the little "indie" title that could.
