Ryu's Food

Today for lunch, I bought a bento. I do this quite often nowadays as I can buy one for $5-$6 on average and it will feed both myself and Ryu for lunch.
Things aren't really the same here in Japan as they were in the U.S. I felt that just about everything in the U.S. could be made cheaper at home, but I don't often find that to be the case here. The grocery store seems to be just as expensive as buying a lunch at a convenience store or somewhere, so sometimes, I feel it's best to just buy enough for us to eat rather than buy larger amounts in the store and then try to find ways to cook everything before it goes bad.

Anyway... To the point of this blog.

Todays, lunch made me think that it may be interesting to document some of the food Ryu eats every once in awhile. Today's bento was spaghetti based and, after he was finished, it was all over him. Quite the mess!
I thought I should take some pictures, but then I thought it would have been better with some before shots of the food... Then I thought it would be better with a small food review... Basically, the more I thought about it, the more it became kind of like a production in my head.

So, would anyone be interested in seeing a blog once every week or two about something Ryu has eaten?

I will probably have a pic of the food after it has been purchased or prepared along with the approximate pricing in U.S. dollars.
My review in the following format:

Brief Taste Synopsis and 1-10 score
Brief Value Synopsis and 1-10 score
Ryu's View - This will be a pic of him after eating and will include two 1-10 scores. One score will be the enjoyment factor based on how much he seemed to like or dislike it and the second will be an ease of cleanup score.

For the record, today, Ryu's scores would have been an 8 for enjoyment and a 3 for ease of cleanup. The only good news was that it didn't end up in his ears or hair, otherwise the score would have been dragged down even further.

Not interested, but hey you asked. Do what you like though. Look at my blogs. haha.

But i DID find it interesting what you noted about the food. It's very true that in the US, that cooking at home is much cheaper then eating out. I go out for lunch and dinner with co-workers sometime and the average lunch costs $10 and the average dinner around $16. Prices are even more so on the rise, and the portions getting smaller (using healthy eating as the excuse) and the quality of the food is not that great. Its like go buy a steak at a restaurant for $20 or one at the store for $6?

I find it interesting because when I met the Chinese girls and became friends with them, they always used to stress how much cheaper food was in China. Apparently in China, grocery store food is EXTREMELY cheap so that was the way to go. But then again, they may very well be being cat and dog instead of chicken. ;P

I also find it interesting what you said about Japan because I have a friend in Japan who said its actually cheaper to eat out, and the food is really good in Japan, with places to eat being sort of a big deal. At least with them having tons of business, and being quite a good experience and good food. Just found it interesting you sort of said the same. Still want to visit Japan so badly. Try some of this food for myself!

I would love to read it. Then again, I'm a sucker for food. At least you guys don't have to tip at restaurants.

Oh, I always thought having a home cooked meal is better eating out with bento boxes. How does your wife feels about this?

Being in Korea right now until Dec 10th or so. I would love to read a blog like this. Especially to kind of compare types of food available as well as price (even if it is one about what your son is eating rather than what you are).

In Korea at least, the native food is extremely cheap and pretty as they say "delicious" (I say good like every westerner would). Western food is goddamn expensive though, so I try not to eat too much so I can save a bit of money.

Off Topic: I may have found what you were asking me about the other day. Just tell me which member(s) or if you want one of the group. It shouldn't be too expensive to send to you BTW. Speaking of which... their new CD came out today. Going to go buy it here shortly.

dv8,

Do they have Ramen that you can purchase from a vending machine over there? I see them all over in Seoul.

I feel like the only thing that I saw there that was cheap (grocery-wise) was fish.

Fish is mega cheap!
I think its a really neat idea : )

I love bento boxes! I get them for lunch often in NYC, and they're pretty reasonably priced, too ($5-6).
