COD: Black Ops Veteran Frustration

I feel like I've been here before. Oh wait, I have. It's the same old shit as World at War. For starters.. Teammate AI sucks and pretty much doesn't do shit. Enemy AI hugs the wall and is nearly untouchable, while if any part of you isn't standing behind a wall you're vulnerable and almost guaranteed a death. Endless enemy respawn. Sprinting from point A to point B trying to get your dumb ass squad to follow you and possibly get a check point is really annoying. I really enjoyed the MW2 SP on veteran and put it down in about 10-12 hours, yet I think I'm pushing the 5 hour mark on this games SP and only on level 2. I'll probably keep sticking with it but I'm really disappointed this is such bullshit so far.

On a side note, this blog is inspired by about 3 hours of nerd rage after being stuck on the same spot. As you can tell I'm a little frustrated up to this point.

Thoughts? Tips / Strategies? Anything?

1. Play on normal/hard first, then veteran for the 2nd playthrough since you know more of what to expect and have more practice.

2. Honestly? It's Call of Duty. It's the same thing every time with a different paint job. What else would you expect?

I'll second doing a play through on normal first. I'm currently trying COD4 on Veteran and it's... well, it's nuts. Almost chucked my controller at the TV in a fit of rage. It's hard for a reason!
Another fine example of being shot in the leg and losing your vision... lol. I didn't even attempt to play first person on Black Ops OR veteran on MW2 - I couldn't stand how accurate hip fire across the screen from AI was. What's the point of playing a game on a difficulty that doesn't allow you even a peak around the corner to see what's where?

I love CoD, but single player hasn't been a strong point since MW.

I played through MW2 on veteran the first time and beat it only about 4 hours more than it took me on my second playthrough on normal. It was hard, but nothing impossible. This on the other hand.. is impossible. lol.

What did you expect? Its supposed to really stupid hard. Like its been said, beat the game on normal and hard first so you learn the games in and outs more.

I beat all the cod games on veteran, except modern warfare 1 just because I like the treyarch ones better, and only did modern warfare 2 for the trophies. I would say its generally not too difficult. On normal I can run through the games in maybe 5-6 hours, probably less if I played it before, on veteran it will take me 10-12.

The biggest key is that you need to advance slow but steadily. You need to move forward from cover to cover, pretending its like a 3rd person cover game. Spy a wall or crate to move up to and crouch behind. Sprint to it. You will get shot and almost die, but you'll survive. Crouch or hide immediately behind it. Its best to find areas where you can quickly sprint between two objects of cover as well as grenades are always a problem.

Anyway, hide behind the cover till full health. Pop up, kill a guy, you will take lots of damage, but if executed properly, there is now one or two less guys to worry about. Wait till health regenerates, sprint to the nearby secondary cover object if a gernade is tossed, keep popping up at full health and take out one guy at a time. You should be able to know exactly where they are when running back and forth or to cover, keep an eye out for them.

Other then that, its really just patience. Its not too difficult, you just need to be patient, attack slowly but with confidence. You'll slowly progress and checkpoints are oftenfrequent enough you wont have to repeat stuff too much.
the_grimace has some good advice, but I remember one mission, I think in Vietnam? Where you have to move up against endless waves of enemies as you go downhill and there's a cave to the right or something. You have to plant C4 I think? Anyway like I said they don't' stop coming and they don't' stop shooting so you have to sprint by and take damage.

Was annoying enough on Normal, I can't imagine Veteran.

My favorite new phrase is trenchline. I can't believe that of despite all the things Treyarch improved on, they didn't remove the endless respawn. Their QA must be masochists.

As for tips, it's really just trial and error at this point. Time it right so that no enemies are no longer respawning and take them out asap and push forward.

I beat it tonight, it was really just that one part in level three I couldn't get past thus the angry nerd rage blog haha. But yeah other than that it was a great game. Gonna play it through again tomorrow on recruit and hopefully get the platinum. Then it's on to MP and zombies.

Well, thank god they toned down the nade spawns...unlike WaW, that frustrated the hell out of me.
