Not more than three weeks after my last post when radiangames Fluid came out, we have the next in the series, Fireball. I'll be discussing that and one other game I've been playing recently. Plus I'll tack on blurbs about some older XBLIGs I've played but never got around to writing anything about. Just know beforehand that I recommend all of the games in this post. Down yonder we go.
radiangames Fireball (Xbox Live Indies) - Fireball is the fifth game in the radiangames series. In Fireball you control a fireball that is trying to escape from the hordes of snowballs and other enemies trying to kill you. You simply move the fireball out of harms way. However, enemies continue to multiply so they must be dealt with. This is done by moving close to the bombs that appear. The bombs are on a timer so after a few seconds they will explode and kill any enemies nearby. If you manage to kill 50 with a single bomb than you earn a nova which acts just like the bombs but creates a much bigger explosion. The gameplay is very much like Pacifist mode in Geometry Wars 2 only more fleshed out. However, you rack up points based on kills, chains, and collecting the sparks left behind by dead enemies. It's all well and fun but the real draw is the developer has added online leaderboards for the first time in one of his games, so the score-centric gameplay is made into an addiction as you try and climb your way to the top. Of course the tight gameplay is accompanied by radiangame's signature slick visuals and excellent music. The developer has also made some very wise decisions in implementing the user-interface. The leaderboards are prominently displayed in the menu system, while in-game your spark count, combo meter, and high score are displayed in the background(look at the sample pic). It's very intuitive and unobtrusive. In addition to the 8 wave main game there are 4 other modes(with one more coming in an update) that are imo, even more addicting than the main game. So I may sound like a fanboy by now but the developer continues his streak of awesome high quality titles for a mere $1. Now go buy yourself some Microsoft points and purchase radiangames Fireball for a bank breaking 80 of those points. http://radiangames.com/ Buy here - http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Pr...5-d802585506de 萌めくり (Xbox Live Indies) - Starting right out I'm going to say that I understand this game will not appeal to most people. It has a very cute Japanese-style presentation. That said, I very much enjoy it. The game itself is a simple tile flipping game. You click on a tile, it flips and the tiles on each side flip as well. The goal is to clear all of the tiles to reveal the image behind them. Those images consist of cute anime girls in swimwear. Those girls then become less clothed as you increase in puzzle difficulty(easy, medium, hard). There's never any nudity(unlike most of these tile flipping games) but it's never needed. The goal is to see the cute girls even though the game banks on you wanting the sexual aspect. Depending on your puzzling ability, it'll take you a little while to get through all three difficulties. Once done it unlocks the special section in which there are 4 more girls to reveal by completing tile puzzle sets instead of just one board. It should also be mentioned that the background music is very cute Japanese synthesized pop music. Again, while I enjoy it, it may be sickening to others. You should know if you will like this game or not, and if you belong to the group who does you can purchase it for $1(80 MSP). The trick here is that you have multiple cities to protect in your region and enemy missiles vary in speed, course, and sometimes they'll even split into two or three. Also, you rotate a nifty 3D globe to find and track incoming missiles. For $1 it's a fun experience in small doses. Buy here - http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Pr...5-d80258550165 Moon Taxi (Xbox Live Indies) - Moon Taxi is an odd game and I don't think I've played anything like it before. You are in control of a spaceship taxi to the moon. During your journey from earth to the moon a story is told. These stories are about the passenger being brought to the moon. From my understanding there was a submission process in which people could submit stories and the best ones were chosen for the game. There are 7(I think, can't quite remember), plus John F. Kennedy's speech about going to the moon. These stories are fully voiced so there's no reading involved. However, many of the stories are voiced by the story creator/s and well, the acting isn't so hot. That's a big downfall for a game that relies on strong storytelling. So what do you do during this trip to the moon? During the story, specific words will pop up on screen. You have to maneuver the admittedly not so awesome spacetaxi to hit the words and gain stardust. It does absolutely nothing other than unlock the other stories. You also try to avoid the asteroids because it knocks loose the stardust. There's really not much of a game here but the stories are creative and entertaining so that's the real reason you'd be purchasing this. It might be overpriced at $3 due to the severe lack of an actual game, but I did enjoy the stories quite a bit so if you think you'd like to hear something creative and funny, you may want to give this a shot. 萌めくり - This is sick, disgusting and perverted. I can't believe anyone would actually review this in the CAG blogs.
