![]() Hi there, I bring you my lists again this year. As always, you will most certainly not agree with my lists, so don't even try. Take it for what it is, enjoy. My top 10 favorite songs of 2010:Honorable Mentions:Conspiracy - Terrible Things The Consequence - You Me At Six Tell 'Em - Sleigh Bells Good Graces, Bad Influence - The Spill Canvas Her Words Destroyed My Planet - Motion City Soundtrack I Felt Free - Circa Survive 10. - Weezer 9. - You, Me, And Everyone We Know 8. - The Audition 7. - Stars 6. - Portugal. The Man 5. - BT 4. - K Sera 3. - サカナクション2. - Circa Survive 1. Forest - Number One Gun My top 10 favorite albums of 2010: Honorable mentions:Hurley by Weezer The Game of Monogamy by Tim Kasher American Ghetto by Portugal. The Man Light Chasers by Cloud Cult 10. Dancing with a Ghost by Valencia - Huge improvement over their already good debut album. Solid from start to finish. 9. Some Things Don't Wash Out by You, Me, and Everyone We Know - Catchy and over the top, overly honest and toppling over horn instrumentals. It's sincere and too much and that's why we should like it. 8. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West - You see this on just about every list. It appeals to even people like myself who aren't into this genre. It's not perfect but it's damn good. 7. Of The Blue Colour of The Sky by OK Go - I feel this album is overlooked. Maybe it's not as fast paced as some of the other albums but this is a finely crafted album that never drags but burns slowly while maintaining the OK Go appeal. Some absurdly awesome videos have come out for this album as well, go youtube them now! 6. The Narrative by The Narrative - It's the sort of album that you take for granted. It's light pop rock with male/female vocals and superb song writing. Next to my #1, this is a true indie gem. 5. The Five Ghosts by Stars - This band is and always was amazing. Male/female vocals as usual though the songs are shorter and the album is paced accordingly. 4. Illuminaudio by Chiodos - Former lead vocalist Craig Owens may have left but they replaced him with someone with balls and then proceeded to create their best album to date. Goodluck with D.R.U.G.S. Craig. ![]() 3. Savages by The Gay Blades - The Gay Blades first album Ghosts was great and I expected this to be similarly great. However, they didn't just make another great album but they exponentially stepped their game up. They're no longer just catchy indie rockers, they've crossed into progressive ass kickery with a good amount of sincerity. ![]() 2. Blue Sky Noise + Appendages EP by Circa Survive - I listed both the album and the recently released EP since they are both great. Appendages is b-sides from BSN but happens to serve as the perfect companion piece bringing your down from the intensity of BSN while also coming out during the appropriate wintery time of the year. BSN is intense yet more structured and accessible than any of their previous work. Get Out is the most kick ass song I've heard all year(next to Sleigh Bells' Tell 'Em). ![]() 1. Sever Your Roots by The Felix Culpa - This is the most cohesive, intense, and well crafted album release I've heard this year. Reminiscent of MUTEMATH's Armistice(my 2009 #1 album) if only for having such a solid intense experience from beginning to end. Nothing is extraneous and the motifs are there. The musicianship is top notch. Listen to this album in one sitting. Closing thoughts: I am more self-aware of the flaws in my list this year,. There are albums I feel I should be placing on it(e.g., Arcade Fire's The Suburbs and Gaslight Anthem's American Slang) but some part of me is resisting it. If I've improved on anything this year, it's making it more personal albeit less comprehensive. Even still, I'm happy(with it) and let that improvement be a metaphor to carry me into 2011. |

Good idea for a post, I haven't heard of a lot of those bands and will probably check some of them out.
Gotta say, though, the new Weezer record was terrible. Like, really terrible. Also, I saw Circa Survive open for Coheed & Cambria, and couldn't stand them. I was surprised to see how well-known they were, over half the crowd seemed to know their songs. |

You, my friend, have some great taste in music. Three of your top ten happen to be in my top five. The Narrative, Chiodos (Which was quite unexpected and even got me thinking to start a sort of album of the month blog here, but I dropped that idea), and Circa Survive. I'd probably fill the other two spots with PMtoday's In Medias Res and Bring Me The Horizon's There is a Hell... which was another big surprise considering how I sort of despised their earlier work. The Felix Culpa would probably get an honorable mention only because I just recently started listening to them and haven't really been able to sink into that album yet.
@johnnypark, I can't stand Coheed & Cambria. The vocals just don't do it for me at all although their instrumental work is pretty good. I think it's kind of unique that they based all their music around a cohesive story but those vocals...man those vocals. |

I just realized I completely forgot about Tokyo Police Club's Champ. Oh well.
@johnnypark I actually like Hurley better than anything Weezer's put out since Pinkerton. @Indignate Thanks, you should write your own list, I'd like to read it. |

Good choices, but you guys clearly forgot a very very impressive album this year.
Medications - Completely Removed If you were fans of Faraquet you should totally check out Medications. This follow up to "Your Favorite People All in One Place" is truly amazing. Another one i would recommend based on your listings would be Tides of Man - Dreamhouse, was another very fun cd to listen to. But i hate to admit it, but all 3 times i saw Circa Survive Anthony was terrible... music was amazing, he was totally ed up. I love that ing band, but totally a studio band. I will give it to him, the most recent time i saw them (for the Blue Sky Noise release) he was significantly better than before (after the rehab). Chiodos is another terrible live but awesome studio band, great live music awful lead vocals. But i will honestly say i had no idea they had a new lead singer or new cd, will give that a listen ASAP. But for me, the music i listened to most this year, not all releases from this year, would have to be these; This Town Needs Guns- Animals Medications - Completely Removed Thrice - Beggars Delta Spirit - History From Below Dance Gavin Dance - Happiness Dance Gavin Dance - Dance Gavin Dance As Cities Burn - Hell or High Water As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep As Cities Burn - Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest Kings of Leon - Come Around Sundown Taking Back Sunday - Live from Orensen (throw back) Nice blog, will have to give everything listed i haven't heard a listen. I am always up for new music! Thanks! |

Hmm. I'll give it another listen, as I'm an admitted fan of the Green Album and a handful of songs on subsequent releases. It probably isn't going to go well, though

I would totally agree with They're Only Chasing Safety as easily being their best CD. But Under0ath has unfortunately succumb to the man. They've continued to do the same shit CD after CD, and frankly i'm tired of it. TOCS was their best cause it was their first attempt at something different after the heaviness of Cries of the Past and The Changing of Times. So soon after the release of TCOS they fell into that Screamo label and never once thought outside of that box. Which is why its increasingly upsetting to me every time i give Disambiguation another chance and am severely disappointed yet again. One last thing about Under0ath though, man do they ever
ing rock live! Hell of a live performance, still to this day Thrice/Underoath at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, Tx November 07' is the best show i've ever been to. Now using that statement as a segue, Thrice still blows any artist out of the water when it comes to maturing as a band over the course of their careers. I beg someone to listen to First Impressions, Identity Crisis, Illusion of Safety, Artist in the Ambulance, Vheissu, Alchemy Index Vol. 1-4 and Beggars and give me a valid argument other words. Bring it to Papa! Peace! |
