thinking about graduation

i actually have about 1 more year of college after this 2010-11 school year but ive been thinking about graduation lately. right now i am an electrical engineer at one of the top UC schools in california. unfortunately, my gpa is extremely low. in fact, i just got out of academic probation because of the difficulty, which totally blindsided me when i transferred there a year ago. (i got very good grades in community college and have always been and still a hard worker).
and recently, i started thinking about what is there for me after graduation. no internships want to take me because of my terrible gpa. ive looked into undergrad research but have nothing to show on my resume because i just started out in this school. so what is there to do?! i am in a total panic because i want to have something to put on a resume by the end of this school year. at this rate, i will be graduating with nothing to show. and i question myself, why would companies want to hire me?! i have no experience in my field. i was just wondering if there was anyone else, even in other majors, with a situation similar to mine. what are you doing to address it? i was thinking about going back to school to get an economics degree after graduation. going back to grad school for engineering is unlikely due to my low gpa. i was thinking about just using an economics degree with my engineering one to pursue a job as an accountant or something in an engineering firm. |

You mention the internships, have you already gotten rejected? I know someone who got a degree in accounting, hated it and ended up teaching. She has been teaching for two years and is happy with the change. It's tough but I thought I would never finish my degree because I worked full time and have two kids to raise. My wife was there and supported me the whole time. You just have to keep pushing forward.

A) Do you like EE?
B) Do you like economics? C) Are you getting bad grades because you are slacking off, or you just don't get it? D) You have 3 semesters left, so you've been in school for only for maybe 3 semesters? Trying to get a sense of how much you can boost your gpa by. My gf directed me here, not sure why. I didn't do well for the first half of my college years, but I doubt your case is anything like mine. But until I know more about your situation, I (and probably anyone else) can advise you at all. And even then, it's your life, and you shouldn't just straight up listen blindly. |

Find something you enjoy that you can reasonably make a living on.
That's the hardest part but it's also the most important thing to accomplish. Put everything you have into this. |
