So I am a 31 year old gamer without much time to game. I have a full-time job, a girlfriend, a puppy, friends, family, etc. In a normal week I probally can get about 10 hours orless of gaming time in. I remember when I was younger and could play games all weekend long any weekend I wanted. I remember playing games in 10 hour stretches. And I loved it. So about 4 years ago I had a planned day off and I played games all day long. For like 15 hours. After that day I decided to make it an annual stress relieving tradition. Every year I take one random day off from workin Jan and play games all day. I make a tenitive schedule of what I want to play (I never stick to it, what fun would that be?) mostly just to get hyped up for the day. I also like to play a lot of games I neverfinished or have yet to start. No job, no friends (except online ones), no girlfriend, just games. So this is what I have planned and later I will post what I did.
9am-10am - Wake up, let the pup out, hit up Dunkin' Donuts for a coffee and bagel sandwich. Get everything all ready to go (pot of coffee on, lap top, games out, etc)

10am-10:30am - Either Pac-Man C.E. DX or Geometry Wars to get my eyes open and ready to go. Both awesome games.

10:30am - 12pm - Super Mario Galaxy 2 - I could see myself getting sucked into this game and playing it for hours. This is the only game I remember in the last month playing for a good amount of time in one sitting. I think I played it for like 4 hours the day I got it.

12:00pm-12:45 - MLB '10 The Show - Best baseball game ever made.
Haven't played it in months, but def gonna get a game in before lunch.

12:45pm-1:15pm - Lunch - What else for a gaming day? Taco Bell, baby!

1:15pm-2:15pm - Fable 3 - Need a little easy RPG action.

2:15pm-3:15pm - Bully SE - Haven't played this game in over a year. Would like to make a little progress in the campaign.

3:15pm-3:30pm - Break - Let the Dog out, Smoke, Etc

3:30pm-5:30pm - Read Dead Redemption - Another game I have hardly played, but I really liked. Want to at least completea few missions in this.

5:30pm-6:15pm - NBA 2k11 - Maybe the best NBA game ever. Probally will do one of the Jordan Challenges

6:15-6:30 - Break

6:30pm-7:30pm - Forza Motorsport 3 - Best console sim racer ever! Level up a little.

7:30pm-8:30pm - New Super Mario Bros Wii - Got this for Christmas and have only been able to play it once. Awesome old-school platforming action!

8:30pm-9:00pm - Dinner - Thinking pizza...

9:00pm-10:00pm - Crackdown 2 - Also have only been able to play this once since I got it and I wanna play through it a little.

10:00pm-11:00pm - Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Haven't even started the campaign yet and thats what I plan to do...

11:00-11:15 - Break

11:15-12:00am - Halo Reach - Currently my fav game atm. Will just do some quick online matches.

12:00am-2:00am (maybe later) - Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion - So close to getting 1250/1250 gamerscore on this one. Been playing this game for years but haven't touched it in months. Just gotta complete some Shivering Isles stuff.

Then sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. I want to make this a national holiday!

Why do you only do one day a year?
Why not one day per quarter?
Or a day per month - but don't have it be a 16 hour day.... Like a 10 hour day or whatever.

Games are awesome - it's what you and I were brought up on.

I am like you, over 30, 10 or less hours per week of play - but I am trying to give myself more time to play because I really do love gaming.
Playing a good game to me is like others reading a book. I get lost in it, I want to keep on playing. I want to get to that ending.

It's funny I started reading this and also immediately thought "this is me".

Right now school is on break so I don't have to worry about that but between work/gf/family I'm at about 10 as well. I'm at the point where I'm actually good with 2 hours a day of gaming. It's when school starts and I can only play like 3 days a week but am also spending that time with my girlfriend or friends and I get angry if I can't play anything.

I have never thought about having a day like this, all though one time when the new trilogy of star wars came out me and my friends took a personal day to watch all 6 movies in order.
I have to say that this is the best idea ever. The last time I was able to do something like this was when I was staying on campus. I need to plan to do this in the future.

I'm another over-30 guy (over-40, actually ) with 10 or less hours a week to devote to gaming, and I LOVE this tradition of yours! My version of it is the two or three times a year when my wife tells me she's taking the kids to visit her sister in New Hampshire. Even then, they usually don't stay overnight, and I have to sleep part of my free day away because I work nights. So I'll end up with a good 5-6 hour chunk of time which I always devote to gaming. I actually got a little annoyed earlier this week when she told me she was planning to do one of these visits next weekend, because I'll be watching football all weekend, so it's going to be a lost opportunity for a gaming day.

I'm looking forward to your follow-up post to read how your Super Awesome Gaming Day actually shakes out.

I'm another over-30 gamer but under-40 gamer. LOL. This is a great idea! I'm not as organized as you. But I usually set aside my "Super Awesome Gaming Days" on days I have to take off since my PTO is near the max. I'm not near the max since I took days off for the holidays. But I will max out in March and will have to take a day off every other week. That's when I resume my gaming days!

Thanks for the feedback guys! I am posting below what I did. To the first poster, I don't have time to do it more then once a year. Sure there are days when I can get 5 hours in or so, but I rarely have time that I could put 10 hours in.

So this is what I did (any gaps in time = smoke/drink/dog/etc)

Woke up a little late at around 10:20ish. Skipped Dunkin and just made coffee at the house and let the dog out etc.

10:45am-12pm - Super Mario Galaxy 2- Haven't powered my Wii on since the clocks rolled back it seems lol. I beat the end boss on world 1 and gained about 5 stars to my total.

12:15-1:35 - MLB the Show '10 - Haven't played this one since 9/25/10. Expected about 45min-1hour for one game. Well it didn't work out like that but it was an awesome game. 14 innings and my create a player hit a walk off homer. In the bottom of the 12th I had bases loaded no one out and I stuck out as my pup knock into my controller and se tin motion a triple steal. Yeah triple play lol.

1:50 - 3:10 - Fable 3 - I became the King! Also got the achievement for blowing people up with explosives.

3:10-4:10 - Taco Bell - Mexican Pizza Meal!

4:10-6:15 - Bully SE - Havent played this game since 01/09 lol. Did a bunch of missions. Love the vibe off this game. Wound up just zoning out to it for a while.

6:15-7:20 - Forza Motorsport 3 - Hit Level 20! - First time this game was played since 1/10... I forgot how awesome this game is.

7:35-8:55 - Halo Reach - This is a game I do play from time to time. Was cool I got to play with a friend I rarely play with. She lives in England so we are on at differant hours.

8:55pm-9:45pm - Dinner / etc (Pizza)

9:45-10:30 - NBA 2k11 - NBA Today Matchup

11:00pm-1am - Red Dead Redemption (last played in June) - Did a bunch of missions. Tryed out the multiplayer and didn't really like it. I did get the viral acheivement for killing some dude though.

1AM-2AM - Sonic The Hedgehog 1 & 2. Figured I'd finish the night on an old school vibe. Played through like 5 levels on Sonic 2. Also got the speed run achievemnts for Chem Plant 1 and the 2nd one on Sonic 1.

And thats it! Here's hoping I can play some of these games again soon. If not, see you next year!
