So I ordered Halo Reach back in September when they were offering the pre-order deal that included a $20 gift card. It is now January and I have yet to receive my gift card even though I have emailed them numerous times between then and now. I have only received two responses:
I emailed again today to find out where it was and when I should be expecting it since we were well beyond the 6 week window. This is the response I received:
I'm sorry, but how does offering me $15 ($5 less than I should be getting from the gift card) make up for you NOT sending me my gift card. I preordered the game when the offer was available. If the "supply" of gift cards was no longer available, then I should have been informed at the time of purchase so I could make other arrangements. Way to go Best Buy. I spend way too much money with you and this is what you do. You made an offer, I accepted, you fulfill it. Easy process. |

Wait! "While supplies last"?! What, did they run out of gift cards? Have you thought about taking this to the Consumerist yet? I've seen some success there even threatening to do such. You might want to send them an email.

I don't mean to downplay your frustration, but that actually not a bad offer they made you. I have had frustrations like that before (one recently with Amazon) where I was promised a service that I didn't get. I know it can be frustrating, but they seemed very willing to work with you to resolve the issues.
Most places would tell you that you are S.O.L. or that it's not their problem. I know getting jipped $5 is never a good thing, but it seems like they did at least try to rectify the situation with an offer close to what you are supposed to get. Sorry again if this sounded mean. I understand the frustration, but be glad they were so willing to work with you! More than can be said for other establishments. |

@kburns10....I don't see it that way. If I walked into the store and they said "we are out of gift cards" or "the offer is no longer valid" then I would have bought it somewhere else. Instead, I paid $60 and waited for $20 that they never had the intention to provide without my constant follow ups. When you try to make things up to someone for not following through with your end of the deal you either do the same or more.

^that is definately not an acceptable solution. they got your money for that game based on their promotion. talk to somebody else there, how the hell they think giving you less is okay is just dumb.
edit - talk to someone, emails are goign to take forever obviously. |

Okay, I have an update. They contacted me via email to let me know they would add the additional amount of $5 onto the RZ account. Don't know why they didn't just do that in the first place. Realize it's just $5, but it's the principle.

Well I'm glad they made good with you. Sounds like they realized they upset you, and in a case like this, there probably many others that didn't get the gift card in time, but did not think to complain.

best buy sucks completely. they fail to meet criteria as the OP has stated, they treat their employees like shit, don't care about any customer really and they're out to make $. before you say "it's what all corporate companies do" not true. most are in to make $ of course, but they don't treat you like shit and the employees as well. aside from that, i've had to argue with them over their mistakes and after spending so much time doing so and all, I just avoid them.

I'm glad things worked out for you. Though I think what Best Buy did here sounds a lot like a bait and switch and you should definitely have pushed for the full amount. If it did indeed say "while supplies last", then I suppose they do have a case, but as you said you need to be informed up front before spending the $60 that the gift card wasn't coming. Either way, that's really crappy on Best Buy's part.
When add your situation with the issues you hear about Gamestop selling games set aside for preorders makes me never want to preorder anything. But keep the consumerist in mind if you encounter something like this again. They are very video game friendly. I knew of a few people who had their issues posted on that blog and it does get a lot of national visibility. |
