Backlog Progress - 2010

As many of you know that have been following my blogs for a while, last year I decided to really work on cutting down my backlog. Realizing I had 200+ in my collection that I started and never finished, I realized it was something that needed to be done (though it should have been started long ago ) I originally started this in late 2009 (around October) but didn't get more serious until a little further into 2010. So, as a recap I finished the following games in 2009:

Agatha Christie and Then There Were None
Anubis
CSI Hard Evidence
Finding Nemo / Monsters Inc

So, very few games finished for the year and certainly not the best games. But, it was a start and believe it or not, I don't think I had finished that many games in one year before just because I started games and never finished it. So while it may seem like nothing to others, for me it was quite good. I decided to set a goal for myself last year, but decided to start it a little late in the year so I wasn't able to make my goal of completing 52 games for the year. Still, I did end up finishing a decent amount of games and I'm still very pleased (especially since I really haven't played anything since October or November) Since 2011 has already started, I thought it would be fun to do a recap for 2010. So last year I managed to finish the following games:

The Bee Movie
Aladdin SNES
Zuma
Aliens in the Attic
Henry Hatsworth In the Puzzling Adventure
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Carnival Games
Chicken Little
Chicken Little Ace In Action
Alex Rider Stormbreaker
Crazy Chase
G-Force
Boing! Docomodake
Lego Batman
de Blob
Antz GBC
Toy Story SNES
Toy Story 2 N64
A Bug's Life PS1
Bolt
Cate West and the Vanishing Files
Elebits
DK King of Swing
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Daxter
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Excitebots Trick Racing
Jungle Book SNES
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs
Family Game Night
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command :gbc:
Atari Anniversary Edition Redux PS1
Drill Dozer
Drawn To Life
Game Party
Casper Friends Around the World :ps1:
Guitar Hero III

So that's a total of 38 games completed for the year, so I missed my goal by 14, but I'm still very happy. I had a decent mix of games and got play a little on all the system and a little something from every genre. I'm still working through a lot of my older games and games that aren't as great as some of my other games. I still have a lot of great games coming up and I'm really looking forward to getting to some of these games I have been waiting to play for a while. To keep this blog shorter I decided not to recap each game, but if you are interested in my "brief" opinions of the games you can find it on my list

So far for 2011 I have finished:

Garfield a Tail of Two Kitties
Haunted Mansion

So my backlog still has a ways to go, but at least I made some progress last year. I haven't really set a goal for myself this year. I have a feeling I'm not going to make as much progress as last year, but I would definitely like to and I would prefer to do better. I think about my only goal for this year is to add fewer games to the backlog than I beat so that my progress makes more of a dent. I kind of had the same goal last year (until I added goals later in the year) but I'm not really sure if I was successful or not I do, however, know I did better than 2009!!!

I have been thinking about my backlog and if I want to change anything about the way I have been tackling it. Last year, I pretty much played games on any system I wanted, but played the games in alphabetical order. I just decided it was the easiest way to go in a choose a game without being stuck with all my bad games at the end or something. I found this method worked pretty well and actually prevented me from being tempted by my new games that I was really wanting to play, i.e Kirby's Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Epic Mickey, etc. So I'm thinking I'm best to stick with this same method this year. Because I have less free time on my hands this year I may make some changes, I just haven't decided for sure if I'm going to and what I want to do. I have a feeling the DS is going to get more time this year than my other systems. I may also change it so that I work on completing my shorter games and/or the bad games first. I really want to get all those games out of the way so I can enjoy all the awesome games I have been waiting to play... but again, for now, I think I'm going to stick with the same method as last year.

So, that's all for my backlog progress for 2010. I'm working on my top picks for 2010 which I should have up sometime this week.

Thanks for reading

I think you did an awesome job getting to 38 of around what did you say, 200? I was only able to get to 18 of my 130 but that was my own fault because of playing a few different RPG's last year.

Hopefully we can both do a little bit better this year since we have smaller backlogs to work with. Well for me, but you need to work on not buying anything else for awhile.
I'm please with the progress. I would have liked to finish more, but it was still more than I ever saw myself finishing in one years time. I'm just hoping I can get back to work on it since my progress really slowed later in the year. I think you did really well though. If I were to actually play games that were difficult and/or long I would have never done that good. I knocked off quite a few games that I knew would be quick and easy to beat, so I cheated a little I'm just glad I don't really like RPGs or I would be doomed!

I'm definitely working harder not to buy games. If I didn't get so many games for Christmas I wouldn't have added any games for 2 months or so. I have been doing a lot better though and avoiding sales. I am missing out on some good deals and really falling behind on some of the newer games, but I'm sure I will get them at some point

Good luck with your backlog this year!

Congrats on getting so close. I remember when we were talking about setting the 52 game goal. I have to be honest I doubt I got anywhere as close as you did. I still have to go over all the games I have completed. I keep getting confused over which was 2010 and which games I played in 2009. I will have to let you know how well I did on our goal when I end up counting them! Again, Great job!!!
Thanks Luhkee! I have the same problem, when I'm going through my games I keep getting 2009 and 2010 mixed up. I'm glad I wrote the actual dates down so I don't get too confused

I'm sure you did better than you think, but as with raarar, you played games that are longer and more difficult than me, so in a way I kind of cheated

Let me know how you did when you find out!

Why would anyone for the love of god devote more than 5 minutes to playing "Garfield: A tale of two kitties."
Well, the game really isn't that bad. I have played games that are a lot worse than Garfield. Besides, I figure it was a game I bought a while back and already spent my money on it, so I might as well play through it. I just got my DSi XL and I just wanted to toss a game in to test it out, that happened to be the game I grabbed and since I had it, I decided to take the hour or so it takes to play it. It's not like it is going to bring any money in if I trade it, so I might as well keep it now
