Question about the value of old game magazines

I've collected game magazines pretty much since Nintendo Power issue #1. I was going through my collection and decided it is time to clean house. Here's what I have:

Nintendo Power = approx 90 issues from #2 onward
EGM = approx 110 issues from early on, like issue 30 onward to now
Game Informer = approx 90 issues from early 2000's to now
GMR = entire run, something like 20 or 25 issues

And about 40 random PSM's and OPM's, Next Gen (from late '90's), Play magazine, and so on.

I'm really at a point where I can weed through, save a few issues here and there, and toss the rest. But, can these be worth something? I hate Craigslist and ebay is a headache because of the cost and hassle to ship.

What say you, oh wise CAG community? What do you think this collection is worth?

And, as a side note, I found some neat stuff. Like an original and mint NES warranty card, original Super Mario 3 instruction guide, a Turbografix promotional flyers, all kinds of old stuff like that.

Sell it to Half Price Books, they buy your stuff. Not sure about the value though
They might have all they need but it can't hurt to check.

I seriously doubt they're worth anything, aside from maybe a few key issues or strategy guides. I had the entire run of NP from like first issue through the first 4-5 years, and nearly the same for EGM. Few years ago I boxed them up and put them on the curb for recycling/garbage.

i sold about 100 (had like 8 years worth of subscription) very good condition nintendo power magazines on ebay as an auction, and got $44. Made a little extra through shipping since I ended up using media mail which made a lot cheaper.

Honestly though, this was MUCH MUCH higher then what similar magazine lots were going for one ebay. I would not get your hopes up of getting a lot of money for them. You would be lucky to get even .50 cents for each magazine, and should expect even less if selling them in bulk. If you cant sell them, it would probably be more worth it to cut off the covers and make posters out of them. Like others have said, most just throw them away.

Good luck though. ebay is your best bet.

THat video game nerd on youtube might want them. Otherwise do you think anyone would want old used magazines? If they were new thats all that would be going for you.

Issue #1 of Nintendo Power can tend to bring a decent price but other than that they are probably worth nothing, and since you only have starting at 2...probably don't have much.

You'd be surprised. I recently sold EGM issues 7, 8 and 9 on ebay for $50, a stack of about 30 Gamefan's for $45, and a few other one-off's for $15 each. People do collect and appreciate game magazines.

My dilemma is: do I care enough about the negligible income to go through the hassle of taking pics, packing them up and taking them to the post office. I'm a CAG, but I'm also lazy sometimes.

Thanks for those with legitimate input, tho. I appreciate it.

You don't happen to have issue #100 of EGM do ya?

To letsgetacid....

Lemme check, I think I do.
Check the link I posted above, there are people who don't want to lose this somewhat forgotten piece of gaming history. In the same way emulation preserves carts and arcade boards, they want to preserve all the news, articles, and memories from old mags. I still have a lot myself I could never throw away. Lots of early NP's along with a near mint first issue. Game Players, PSM, few strategy guides and then newer GI (likely worthless), NP and P:TOM.

Thanks for the link, Lotta. I've been to that site before and I'll check it out again before I unload these.

The strategy guides that Nintendo sent out in the golden age of Nintendo Power might be worth something. I have a Final Fantasy one in a crate I kept them in. Recent Ebay completed listings show a range of 6-19 bucks for it. That's more of an exception though for them.

If you do, I would be willing to buy it.

If you end up selling some, I'm interested in any that have articles, interviews, etc. pertaining to Final Fantasy VII (and/or its spinoffs, but mainly FFVII itself).

That site is very cool. My guess is that outside of some of the GameFan issues and early EGM's, there's not much value to game magazines.

Next Generation was a great mag.

I thought EGM issue 100 was in my "keep" pile, but I can't find it.
