Need mixed drink/beer suggestions

All right, it should be very surprisingly I'm blogging about this subject, especially since I've been a pretty big straight edge for a while. I'll explain a little why I started this blog.
While going out to Happy Hour last Friday night, it was a bit better compared to some bars/nightclubs I went to, but I'm just not a big fan of those places. I end up paying a lot of money for stuff (like parking, coat check, meals, etc.) and I just don't feel comfortable around many people I don't know. I tend to be SILENT and not talk much (only talk to my group a little). This has happened at the majority of places I went to (15+). Almost every time including Friday night, I had zero alcoholic drink. While I've had beer a few times, quite honestly it doesn't taste too great. It does make me relax a tad, but I'm just not a big fan of the taste and would rather have a Pepsi/Sprite/Coke/Ginger Ale since it taste good. As for the mixed drinks, I tried Captain and Coke because it was an appealing enough combination. First tasted like crap (too much Captain and not enough Coke). Second one was a tad better, but still didn't fall in love with it (more so had Coke with a little Captain). I'm starting to think I should either give up on going to clubs/bars (well, I really don't plan to do it much at all anymore), or I should at least try some more mixed drinks/beers so I can possibly tolerate the scene better (I won't even dance at a bar/club). While many love a ton of alcoholic drinks, I'll admit that I HATE fruity drinks such as various juices and stuff. When you take them away, there are really not all that many mixed drinks I can find appealing. After talking with some friends, I came up with a few mixed drinks I might like:
I heard about one drink that mixes Sprite, but forgot what it was. When it comes to beer, I only tried 3-4 beers in my lifetime: Budweiser, Bud Light, and Miller Lite. IMO, they are all not tasty but I drank them because I at least had them before and know what to expect with its taste. I've been quite unsure on trying some beer because I never heard of the name (I strictly go by TV ads and stuff). I'd stay away from KeyStone Light since it was all over my college campus and heard it was disgusting cheap stuff. I don't plan to be any major beer drinker, but I might try a few new beers before I give up on it. If anyone has ideas or has something to say about the drinks I listed, feel free to post. |

Wassup Mana? Just had to check in and give you a few suggestions. first though let me say alcohol is an acquired taste and ALL is nasty until you get use to it(that is just how I feel about it)
Anyway as far as Beer goes: I suggest Corona, Heineken, and Guiness. With Corona's being my favorite now. As far as Hard Liquor goes Vodka and Rum are my faves. Try an Incredible Hulk it is Hennessey mixed with Hypnotiq. Also try Wine. You can't go wrong with Moscato. Hope it helps and I will think of a few more ideas for you soon |

Just to clear up some things:
1. A long island ice tea has no lemon or tea in it, it is high up on the alcohol content though so you will be feeling good after a couple of those. 2. A white russian is like a dessert, good if you like sweet drinks, not exactly like coffee that much (at least to me, but I drink espresso at work every day here in Denmark so maybe my taste is off on that). I think you should try a "Ginger Jack" which is Ginger Ale and Jack Daniels Another thing that is good is a margarita, not a frozen/blended one and not one of the fruit ones (like strawberry), but just regular one. Now, saving the best for last, you should try a mojito. It is nice and refreshing and doesn't usually taste too strong. There is a reason this has became so popular in the last 10+ years, it just tastes good. To me this kinda taste like sprite anyways and is refreshing. |

Beer is definitely an aquired tast but once you start liking it, it's amazing. And you can sip on them all night without being plastered unlike a Long Island Ice Tea or some liquor-soda mix.
The first types of beer I drank were American Lagers and light beers. These will ease you into the flavor. Once I started enjoying these "noob" beers I moved onto European Lagers such as Beck or Heneken. From there I went on to try anything really. Currently Amber-Ales are my favorite. My cheaper beer of choice is Killians but if I can afford it I'll go with Beck's Dark or my new discovery Flat Tire. I tend to stay away from the super-dark beers like Guiness, they just are too bitter and definitely not for a newcomer to beer. As far as mixed drinks go my recommendation would be Margaritas or Mohitos. They have a little bit of a fruit flavor but I wouldn't consider them fruity. If you find the Tequila too strong in a Margarita order it frozen, that usually takes the edge off the Tequila "alcohol" taste. |

Do you like red bull and black licorche? If so, try a Jaegerbomb!
Blue Moon is decent beer, I know a few non beer drinkers that like it. Exactly, Keystone Light and Natural Light are the cheap beers for college kids. They both have little taste. Natty light is basically beer flavored water. All the really good beers are acquired tastes. Definitely second the Margarita, one of the best drinks every created! You might like the mojito, if you like mint. If there is a drink you can buy that mixes Hawaiian punch and like Jack Daniels or Captain Morgan or Crown Royal, etc GO WITH THAT Hawaiian punch goes very well with any alcohol even better than Coke. I've mixed Everclear and Hawaiian punch it burned but it still tasted pretty good. |

Blue Moon with an Orange for beer.
A good mix with Sprite is Stoli Raz Vodka (just order a Stoli Raz & Sprite I say go with the White Russian and/or Long Island Ice Tea. Just make sure with the Long Island that they don't use the premade shit cuz it tastes bad. Also the above suggestion of a frozen margarita is a good choice as well. |

Yuengling is my go-to beer of choice, it's cheap and it tastes great. I also enjoy the Sam Adams Seasonals, not really big on there standard Boston Lager.
If you want to get into beer you should probably go check out a brewery that has a beer sampler. They usually cover the basic, lager, stout, lite, porter, etc. Hopefully you find something you like from the sampler and then go from there. Since you are in the Baltimore area, go try a good ol Natty Boh. |

White Russians are good. I also recommend a Smith and Kearns it has Kahula, Milk and Club soda, or a Smith and Wesson which has Kahula, vodka, and coke (sometimes with a splash of cream) Try a gladiator, its a drop shot, a shot of South Comfort dropped into glass of orange juice, chug away it takes like OJ |

You are not straight edge. Do you walk around with Xs on your hands? No.
Do not get a Long Island Iced Tea. You will not like it because its all alcohol with a splash of Coke for color. If you complain about the taste of Captain and Coke then you will complain about LIIT. You shouldn't get a Boilermaker or Irish Car Bomb because those are meant to be drank quickly which I'm sure you don't want to do. For mixed drinks you are probably better off with simple mixed drinks such as 7 and 7 or a Screwdriver. As for beer I would suggest maybe a small craft beer instead of a major company. The small craft beers will offer better flavor that you might enjoy. |

seriousy though, try some different beers and mixed drinks and see what you like, and go from there. don't be afraid to talk to a bartender at a bar and ask them what they like, most of them are actually nice.

why are you trying to drink when you don't like alcohol or the bar/club scene?
drinking because you think it'll make it "tolerable" is the absolute wrong way to go |

Try a Vodka Tonic (Absolute Vodka, Tonic water, lime). Tastes more like soda than anything.
For Beer, Corona with lime is pretty mild (aka 'noob' beer as referenced above). *edit the 'recommended' drinks in your OP make it seem like your friends are ing with you rather than recommending something you might actually like. |

I highly suggest White Russians. I used to make awesome White Russians in college, they taste really good and you barely notice the alcohol if you make it tasty enough.

Didn't read what others said but a Long Island Ice Tea has 0 Tea in it.
http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink590.html One I like is a Black Tooth Grin and that is 2 shots crown, 2 shots seagrams 7, and enough coke to make it black. EDIT: Also if you like beer try some micro brews. Shock top is a good one along with Schlafly. |

Gin & Tonics don't have much flavor if you use a higher-quality gin, you could drink those without a problem. As for the long island ice tea, if you drink one you'll be doing fine. I myself go with Crown & Coke but that's just my opinion. Enjoy whatever you go with.

German beer IMO is the best choices for beer, i.e. st pauli girl.
If i want a drink thatll get the job done quick, i usually drink vodka mixed with sprite/7up or oj. I love long islands but if you're just getting into drinking, it may be a bit much. As others have said it's basicly all liquor..and it tastes like liquor. It's not something to really sip and enjoy IMO..its more of getting ed up quickly from it. |

I would go with a Yagerbomb, but to be honest I'm not to go at mix drinks beyond Jack and coke.

No way you would drink an Irish Car Bomb. It's a 1/2 or so pint of Guinness with a shot of whiskey dropped in and you chug it. And then prepare for your stomach to bloat up after.
White Russians are good. You should try a Mudslide. |
