I buy a lot of PlayStation Network cards

When many have seem my pick-ups for each month, they probably noticed there are PSN cards in just about every pick-up blog. So just how many do I have:

Since July 2009, I have bought all of these.

Before 2009, I bought all these:

In case many of you didn’t know, I was one of the first people online to buy a U.S. PSN Card. My story was on PS3 Fanboy, Kotaku, N4G, and many other sites. The picture of Meijer carrying them was taken by my cell phone. I also blogged the story and explained all the issues with the early PSN Cards (which have been solved now).

Anyway, when you run the total, the first picture is $990 worth of PSN cards (not including the $40 PSP games each), then $240 worth of PSN cards in the second picture. There are some PSN cards and CC purchases (before PSN cards) not accounted for. Regardless, that's definitely a lot of money spent on PSN. I did buy a bunch of full version PSP games, PSN games for PS3 and/or PSP. Did not buy any movies with the money. So if people wonder just how large my download list currently is.....

I cannot tell you how many PSN game purchases I made (easily over 60). I also purchased tons of SingStar songs not on the main download list.

Some may wonder why I buy so many PSN cards? I just rather purchase them then use a CC, because it seems more like I somewhat own a copy of my downloads (having a PSN card). I sometimes use a CC to buy a PSN card at Target. I'll admit I do not play my PSN downloads anywhere near as much as my retail games, but its tough to resist the urge to buy cheap games.

Anyone else feel they spent a crazy amount of money on downloads? When compared to XBLA and the Wii Shop Channel, I'd roughly say I spent $120-$140 on XBL Marketplace, and around the same on the Wii Shop Channel for VC and WiiWare games.

I only buy them when they are on sale at BB for like 10-20% off. If you waited till they had a sale to buy them I won't pass judgement.
Once you use them, why do you keep them?

@phantasyx, almost everyone I bought was at face value.

@Scorch I keep a collection of them.
I'm going to be spending at least $200 this year on PSN cards for one geeky reason: Toei Anime. The longtime studio put up some old school anime that had always wanted to watch like Fist of the Northstar, Slam Dunk, Galaxy Express 999 and Captain Harlock. All the seasons are there and as far as I know, not available in licensed disc form in the U.S.. Funimation does have them streaming for free at their website but I do like the sense of ownership (and the show's thumbnails do look slick on my XMB).

I managed to get Funimation's PR people and Toei America's PR people to each spot me $60 on PSN codes but I didn't want to abuse my press privilages so I'm buying the rest of the episodes I'm missing.

That is a ton of cards. I don't think I have even bought that many cards for the 360 and PS3 combined. Of course I don't buy DLC for the PS3 and I only own a couple downloaded games for the PS3:
Earthworm Jim (wish I had got for 360 but I had bought some PSN cards for cheap from KMart)
Flower
Gundemonium Collection
Scott Pilgrim (same as Earthworm Jim)
Soldner-X

I don't even buy to many games on XBL. When I do buy them I wait until they are on sale or when I can find XBL points for cheap.

Good lord... I think I've spent a total of like $10 on PSN. Over $1000 on downloadable content? Nice...

To date I have spent exactly $0.00 on PSN. I hate that PSN prices never go down, like disc-based games do.

@dannyrox718, PSN prices DO go down.

do you have a speedway gas station near you? Over the summer they had "buy 3 get 1,000 bonus points"(on top of the regular points) and "cash in 20,000 bonus points for a $20 card. Could have gotten you maybe a card or 3 free maybe.

Anyways, I have 2 gameshare groups and a very active rockband group alive still from rockband 1. Those along with my personal account does set me back maybe $200 a year.
phantasyx's Avatar
yeah If you gameshare you get it at 1/5th of the cost and you could have only paid 90% if you got it at best buy with a coupon. You should try to sell some of your slots, you could at least make $800 off of them.

That's crazy, seeing stuff like this makes me sad for you.
I bought a few when they went on sale, otherwise I'd just use my card to buy games.

Surely I've spent a lot but since I won't buy anything over $10 without splitting it the total probably isn't too sickening. Just like physical games if you wait long enough the price will drop. I've also never bought a movie, might have only gone to the other half of the store once or twice.

I've spent around 250 for psn and around the same for xbl stuff. I quit buying xbl stuff. I haven't in forever. I got stuff I'll never play or rarely played. Far as Wii goes I might have spent 50 If that on the vc games. You've spent over 1,000 on psn stuff. I knew you bought tons of games, but damn.

The amount of rock band songs I downloaded is ridiculous. My friends bought (easily) 7x more than I did. I recently deleted them in order to download a few demos.

PSN does drop prices very often, but it almost makes me always want to buy from PSN anymore, since almost every game I buy for $10-15 shows up in the weekly offers about 6 weeks later for half off.... FML

Now you have to turn in your CAG card.

I always buy my Sony Computer Entertainment of America products at full price, I would feel like I'm stealing if I got a PSN card on sale.
LordVila's Avatar
TMK do you have any cards left? First I took away your black card and now dv8mad took away your CAG card.
