My Brand New Prius was Vandalized :( Woe is Goomba... |

Man, talk about the worst thing that could happen today. I was driving downtown New London, CT to go and visit my grandparents (who I haven't seen since the 4th of July) and on the way there we were struck by a boy throwing large rocks at our car. When we came through a bridge underpass my wife noticed a young boy (about 13 years of age) on the side of the road. We didn't think much of it, but when we drove by we heard a LOUD bang on the side of my car...I thought another car had hit us, but it turns out the boy threw a large rock (or two rocks...not sure) at the side of my new 2007 Toyota Prius...
We stopped the car and the boy ran away of course, but we looked at it and the side of the car now had two good size dents in the car. I was heartbroken...not only did my beautiful car get vandalized right before my vacation (leaving to visit Maryland this week) but now my wife is extremely upset as well. We were only about 300 feet from the Police Station when it happened so we went ahead and reported it, but of course the kid was long gone by that time. We made a police report, and they told us we could call our insurance company. What sucks is that I have a $1000 deductable, so even if Geico were to cover it, it'd cost a MINIMUM of a $1000 for me to fix it...something I really cannot afford at the moment. What can I do guys? Do you have any idea? I have a feeling that Toyota would want to replace the entire door or have to repaint that side of the car to make it match. I realize it's just cosmetic damage, but seeing those dents is going to hurt me and my wife every time we look at it. I'm so bummed out right now :( |

That really sucks man, I'm sorry. I don't know what you can do, honestly.
Other people could probably help you better. Best of Luck. |

unless you could find a panel beaters (or whatever its called in the us) that would be able to do the work without damaging any sort of warranty you have, do you not have a protected no claims bonus like we do in the uk? My mum's mercedes needed the whole door replacing which cost £4000 ($8000!!!) when another car hit her in a car park, so maybe $1000 could seem quite cheap, although it hurts to look at it, don't worry about it for now man, just get it fixed when you can comfortably afford it

I know how you feel. I just bought a brand new Accord a month and a half ago. I'm right out of college so this is the nicest thing i've ever owned or laid hands on. A week after I get it I bring my friend out to show him. On the way out I keep saying that the car makes me feel like a million bucks, and then I notice that someone hit my car in the front while pulling out. It sucks.

go to a well known body shop or shops and get some estimates or go to who ever you have for your auto insurance and ask them who they reccomend. Thats what my insurance does, they know of body shops so they can send the check to them. Thats my 2 cents worth. Good Luck.

I know the feeling, it seems every new car is on the cusp of getting some sort of cosmetic damage to blemish it.

kick some more dents in your car, having a 1k deductible is retarded.

What's the insurance company that gives the monkey in the trunk?? You need that, next time that kid will have no where to run!
I would have chased after him even before I looked at the car to see what the hell it was. Little kids and running away are a bad combo. Combo Break his face. |

It was in a really bad neighborhood first of all, and it was under an overpass on the highway where it merges to a one-way street downtown. I pulled over my car and even in doing so was almost hit by cars behind me zipping by. Even the cop said we did the right thing not chasing the kid, because it's a dangerous part of town. They said that sometimes gangs will throw rocks at cars so that you get out of the car and then some other gang members come from behind and steal your car while you get out...scary stuff.
He wasn't really "little" either. He was like 5'8" or so and around 14-15 years old. Not like he was some little 7 year old throwing pebbles... :( Update: I just went to my local dealer and they want $1010.32 to fix the dents...geez. I'm instead going to see if I can go to a PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) place tomorrow where they say they can probably do it for a $100-$125 per dent. Seems a lot more reasonable. As for my insurance, yeah I had no idea that it was $1000 deductable for stuff like this also. Thought it was just for bigger accidents and what not. Oh well, I definitely will look into changing my coverages now. |

put stickers over the dents. Just turn your yota into a sticker car. Dents will come and go, serenity is forever.
