Took the famdamly to the beach today, great watching my 18 month old daughter play around and have fun given all of her past medical problems she has ran into. Was carrying her and the cooler back to the car, I couldn't tell her no since she ran to me while I left the wife and son back at the beach. So, there I was carrying my daughter in one arm and carrying the cooler, big enough for two arms, with my extra arm. Mind you I passed by dozens of people, didn't offer to help nor did I ask. Just makes you wonder though what goes through people's minds, "Is that guy stupid", "I should offer to help". Oddly enough a random guy came out of no where when I was about 3/4 of the way to the car and offered a hand. The kids had a blast which ultimately is all that matters.
Work is still work, it's a jail, not much changes, several hours of silence with a few fleeting moments of sheer terror at times. We are on a budget freeze right now, so no raises, whether it is in a contract or not, that goes for cost-of-living raises as well, which I haven't seen a cost-of-living raise where I work the entire time I have been there. The world seems to be going down the crapper. I hurt my knee at work, really I think I am just getting older and the beating my knees have taken throughout my career so far has taken it's toll. So do I put in a worker's comp claim, hell no, so I can get blackballed? So I figure I will go to the doctor and just get it checked out, I have good insurance or so I thought. So I go to a doctor, in my "network" and pay my co-pay, figuring that is all out of pocket costs I will pay. Apparently I was wrong, the doctor orders an x-ray of my knee just to make sure nothing is broken and the place says "That will be $500 because of your deductable, what are you prepared to pay?" So needless to say I left after telling the lady "You know I have insurance, it's good, I thought". So no x-ray for me, is my knee fractured, possibly, it still is giving me issues but, I can't justify $500 for an x-ray, that's horrendous.
My entire life, I have never turned down medical treatment, so this was a first, and it pissed me off, I was looked at like I was cheap or ignorant. I suppose I am the only one not willing to shell out half a grand for bullshit or just lift up my couch cushion to my grand wealth of booty. Thoughts?
