![]() So I decided to stop being a lazy as for once for a few minutes and write a review that should have been written ages ago. That's right, Batman: Arkham Asylum is now under my control! BWAHAHAHA! First, I gotta say, I have the Special Edition (You know, the one that came with the Battarang Model?) and it had a little book inside with profiles on all the inmates of the asylum, I pretty much went into "fanboy happy rage" mode as soon as I started reading. So be warned, I'm in a semi-good mood just thinking about this game! Alright, so whaddya do when you thought you were just visiting an insane asylum to drop off a patient, but suddenly you find yourself in the middle of a demented clown's wet dream? You kick some ass, that's WHAT! The freeflow battle system combined with the intelligent AI and beautiful (okay "Gothic") world makes for one of the best looking multiplat' games since whatever shooter game came before it. Story time in Gotham city! You play as Batman, the Dark Knight, bringer of justice and harbinger of fear to the criminals of Gotham City. After catching your demented homicidal archenemy, The Joker, you escort him back to home of all things crazy, Arkham Asylum. As you're in the process of taking him back to his cell, he manages to get loose and evades your every attempt to capture him before he something up or kills someone.Leading you right into his psychological game of cat and mouse, you learn that he has already taken over the asylum and set all the other inmates loose and free to wreak havoc on Arkham Island. With him sitting on the throne, watching at all burn to hell. It's the player's job to subdue the inmates, regain control over Arkham and capture The Joker along with the rest of your plethora of baddies waiting for just the right moment to take you down. In this game, you'll do everything from stealth knockouts and blowing up walls to gliding across entire maps and taking on a 20 man brawl fest single handedly. ************************************************** *************** That being said, it's time for the downsides of this wonderful game. ._. First off, I'd like to say this game is far too short, by like 20 hours. I played this game nonstop and only got about 4 days (that's about 30 hours for me) out of it. but it really disappointed me when I started the final boss fight. I was like "doo de doo do dooo~ *starts last fight* Eh? Uuhhh okaaayyy.... *fights* *rapes boss in one try* ............ ." It didn't make any sense, I hated how dreadfully easy it was and I was downright appalled by how SHORT it was. I wish I could go back in time and bitch slap myself and delete the save data before I could ever experience such $$$$$$ry. Secondly, the Villains. Yes I know BM: AA has Harley, Bane, Crane, Joker, Zsasz, Ivy, Killer Croc, even the Riddler has apart to play. But most of the REALLY bad doods were only referenced or made small cameos. (*coughClayfacecough*) I would have LOVED to have had Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Blackmask, Ra's al Ghul, Solomon Grundy, Two Face. it, I would have been happy with KGBeast. Simply put, all the overhyped crackjobs were added.Unhappy Oaxan is Unhappy. ಠ_ಠ Last but not least, the Freeflow battle system. Personally, I think the idea is BRILLIANT. It's too damn bad it wasn't developed very well. All Bruce does the entire damn game is flip and twirl around, occasionally walloping a schizo' upside the head with his heavily reinforced combat boot. That's why I avoided full out combat as much as possible, I was perfectly content with hanging from a gargoyle and snatching my prey up like a spider the entire time. But I could not stand the forced H2H combat situations that would pop up every 20 minutes. Combat: 6 Story: 9 Length: 6 Voice work: 10 Difficulty: 7 Final Score: 38 out of 50 I apologize for nothing. also, The Game has been lost :3 The Ever-Loving, Blue Eyed bastard, Oaxan. |

38 out of 50?
You sir, are out of your mind. I'd probably give it something like 48 out of 50 and then only because, like you, I wanted it to last forever. It's literally the best superhero game ever made and even without the license, it would be a fantastic title. I played through it twice on 360 and will begin my PS3 run(s) within a week. Shit is TWISTED! |

@Halo05- I agree. This is the best superhero game so far. Look at Iron man, Spiderman (some), and the others. I hope they keep this up for the new BB City game.

Great game. Great length that didn't drag on. It took me 3-4 weeks to beat, but I don't have a lot of time to play. I played it a few months ago and was very impressed.

Did you just say a 30 hour action game was too short?

Yes, I did. xD
I'm home most of the time just playing video games, so I can run through most games pretty fast. (example: I beat Final Fantasy X in less then a day) so yeah, it's short but sweet. |
