Non-Bias Portal 2 review (Xbox 360) |

Just kidding, no seriously.
Portal 2 continues its success from the original Game however Loading times, Outdated Graphics, and a complex multiplayer hamper the experience. Sadly I wish there was more, I logged a good 7 hours playing the game (because I got stuck a lot) and the multiplayer does lengthen the experience but overall it wasn't that long of a game. I can't even say I'll play the first person mode again. This game seriously has no replay value at all unless you really enjoy the story. That being said it was worth the ride. Portal 2 has more jokes this time and introduces Cave Johnson (Creator of Aperture Science) who, for me, stole the show and I was busting out laughing waking up my baby periodically. Portal 2 also has Westley (Played by Steve Merchant) who also brings a fare amount of comedy this time. However I found GLADOS to be the least entertaining in fact very annoying as her dialog tended to "hold your hand" with her comedy. After each level or area is passed (or by death) you are greeted with a loading screen. The loading screen takes about a minute to pass and it was annoying enough to mention it because I installed the game on my HD and it happens too frequently. This never was a problem while playing but it probably added a entire hour to my play time which was not welcome. The visuals on the xbox 360 seriously look like this game came out 5 years ago. Granted they are probably using the same engine to create this game. I was expecting a least a visual update but its the same grainy textures that don't leave me in awe of the experience. I will note that I do like the improvement to be able to see your portal through wall so you don't lose your placement. The multiplayer is a nice addition to the experience however this depends on who your playing with and if your online or at home. I played at home with my GF and she got stuck alot not knowing good places to set the portals. I had to hold her hand for a while and when the puzzles got more complex it was just unplayable with her. So thats something to consider when playing the multiplayer. So to sum up Portal 2 it was a fun ride however it was only worth riding once and it wasn't that long. I don't know why Shipwreck listed this as a must buy at $60 because I completely disagree with that. This is Cheapassgamer, nobody pays retail! I would suggest renting this, this isn't even worth a purchase. You can view my profile to see how to get a cheap trial if you'd like to use Gamefly to rent it, however I can't suggest buying this for any more then 20 dollars. |

Gotta expect the outdated graphics since the source engine is ancient at this point.I myself am going to wait a bit for a steam sale to pick this one up.

I have to disagree with you a bit. I think the new puzzles and setting are amazing. The writing and voice acting are nothing short of spectacular. Steven Merchant, the co-creator of "The Office," voiced a character for crying out loud!
Portal was one of the best games I have ever played. So far, Portal 2 is living up to the hype for me. I love it. Our differences could be from the platform too. I'm playing it on the PS3 because of the Steam integration, and the free copy of Portal 2 on Steam. The visuals look great on my 1080p plasma via HDMI. The loading times are a bit ridiculous though. I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but I have the PS3 and Steam community to play with. Just for that, it's worth the $60. |

All in all it was only 10$ for me on the PC so I didn't mind.

I swear that loading isn't that bad. I mean, it kind of sucks to load between each level, but, I feel like it doesn't take more than 20 seconds. I'll have to time it, but a full minute seems too long.
I have to disagree with GLaDOS assessment though. I thought she was as hilarious as the original Portal. I love the fat jokes she busted out, lol. Also, I thought the graphics looked great on my 42" 1080p LCD. I was actually really impressed with the environments. It is short, but then again, puzzle games have a lot to do with the user, so if you aren't good at solving puzzles, I can see that game taking a lot longer. I wish there were more easter eggs and secret rooms/areas. The whole idea of a portal gun opens up the possibility to do a lot of fun traveling like that. |
