Whenever Gamestop has a promo like they did recently where lower TIV games get a boost when traded in together, I tend to get in a specific frame of mind about which games to play - the ones I have no interest in S-ranking, 100% completing, or doing multiple playthroughs, have no MP, and aren't terribly long. I do have quite a few of these still sitting around, and I try to make it a point to get through some of them when they will bring me the most value. In some ways, this seems to make gaming a bit more of a chore, as I force myself to play games with a little more urgency. It did get me to start (but not finish) Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and I played through Heavenly Sword in 2 days - finally (also, fun game)!

Now that the promo is over, and even after stocking up yet again on cheapies from Blockbuster, I suddenly found myself desiring a drawn-out, lengthy story with lots of stat boosting and armor swapping. Granted, I've been playing through DQ IX, but I wasn't looking for anything turn-based, or more to the point, JRPGish. I've had multiple copies of The Witcher through the years - the disc version of the EE of which I never played much, and now the digital version. I also had Dragon Age: Origins UE sitting around since November, with only the back story section of the mage class completed.

The hype and incredible reception Witcher 2 is getting spurred me to download all 14 gigs of the first one (after backing up and deleting files from other Steam games...my god that directory is big) while I began the rogue story of DA. I only got to the army camp before sleep successfully argued that it was bed time, but I'm totally looking forward to going back to it after work today.

A lot of the time, I look at my stack of unplayed games and figure that I could get through a few shorter ones instead of engaging in a 40-60 hour epic, but that just means I never get to the real classic ones. Maybe it's summer coming, or something, but all of a sudden I don't really care for the hack n slash games. I'll keep playing Bad Company 2, to be sure, but the rest of my time is going to be spent with Geralt of Rivia and my hot ass elf rogue.
