You've Lost that (Game) Lovin' Feelin'....

I've written very few blog entries since joining CAG several years ago. I haven't written any other than those I've written on CAG.
Much to my surprise my last couple blogs have actually received a few hundred views because they dealt with things like Gamestop, Best Buy and Amazon. Obviously those posts got more views because most (if not all) CAGs related to to shopping with these retailers. With that in mind, I decided I wouldn't create another blog entry until I had something to say that I though most CAGs could relate to. Unfortunately, I now have that topic: I'm in the midst of a gaming funk the likes of which I have never experienced before. The last game I played (other than 5 minutes of Ghost of Sparta) was Dead Rising 2. I played maybe 4 hours of the game and then just stopped. That was probably a month and a half ago, yet I still have virtually no interest in picking up a controller. I've tried all the usual tactics such as working out more, spending more time with family, and doing just about anything other than gaming, but my game "lovin feelin" just has not returned. So I am turning to my fellow CAGs for suggestions and anecdotes about their worst gaming funks and what they did to push through them. I'm also taking suggestions for individual games that people think may revitalize my interests in gaming. Infamous was one of my favorite For the purposes of suggestions, I have a Thanks for reading and thanks to anyone who has read this far and can offer up any ideas. |

Play games up to the first save point and if you don't like it, move on. Thats what I do.

If it's an overall disinterest in games (which is how I read your post) then I say don't worry about it. If the interest is going to come back, it will. However, if you try to force it, you may lose interest totally. It seems that my extra-curricular interests work in phases. I'll be very gaming oriented for a while, then movie oriented, then comics, rinse and repeat. Just go with the flow and try something new

I don't have too much in the way of suggestions, but I can say I'm right there with you. I struggle with this quite a bit lately. If you look at my completed games list, you can see stretches where I just didn't touch much in the way of games. It can be really hard to get into something. But once I get going in something, I tend to do fine and can enjoy it and finish it, and if I pick something else up right after that, can roll into that too. But if I take too long a break, I start to get into a funk. It seems to be, for me anyways, that getting that momentum and pushing past the funk for the first 30-60 minutes to get into a game can help me get back into the groove.
Anyways, don't worry too much, you're not alone. Hope you find a way out of your funk soon! |

The instant I found out how games were made, the magic was gone.
Now when I see something cool or a glitch I always think "hmm... I wonder who thought of that" or "Wow, they need to fix that wtf..." |

I'm going through it to some extent, but I also had both my 360 and PS3 break on me in the span of two weeks. I just moved as well, so the only systems I have available are the Wii and PSP.
I've had gaming funk before though. It's kinda like depression, give it time, maybe some drugs, and eventually it'll go away. You can try to play through it in hopes that a game grabs your interest, but your best bet is to just back away for a while and let the will to game come back naturally. |

If you had a Wii, I would have recommended Kirby's Epic Yarn. Barring that, I would suggest trying something radically different from what you usually play. I play a lot of action/beat em ups, and eventually I got sick of it and suddenly had the urge to play some RPGs. It was kinda cool.

Thank all you guys for your comments and suggestions. Originally (I'm referring to the post atari and coleco vision years) I was primarily a sports gamer. I've gone away from that though. I'm considering throwing in MLB 11 the Show to see if I can go back to my gaming roots.

Is your PS3 backwards compatible? If so... God Hand (PS2) is the only game you'll ever need!
