Dante's Peak Movie Review - Good Bad Flicks

This week on Good Bad Flicks I check out the action disaster movie Dante's Peak.
 Dante's Peak I live on the east coast and on Tuesday we had an earthquake. Then this weekend we had a hurricane. These are two things that don't happen around here too often so I felt the overwhelming urge to do an episode about one of my favorite disaster films, Dante's Peak. Comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated. This movie is easy to find on DVD. It is even in a 2 pack with the tunnel collapse movie, Daylight. |

I'm doing Videodrome at some point, such a weird but cool movie. I love They Live and I've been thinking about doing a show on it...I've been trying to gather more info on it so it was more than just me gushing about it. It kicks ass and chews bubble gum. |

The science behind the volcano in Dante's Peak was pretty accurate, compared to the movie Volcano which came out around the same time.

Yeah, they did their best to try and keep it accurate whereas Volcano just went for the full on silly Hollywood blockbuster treatment. I still enjoyed Volcano but it is so far into the realm of disbelief that it comes out the other side.

Dude, the lake with grandma scene was very sad. Saw it 9th grade year.

Maybe it is the cynical side of me but the grandmother scene always bothered me. Here was Pierce Brosnan, working overtime to try and save everyone and a foot before they get to safety the grandmother decides to jump in the acid to save them. Now, all the focus shifts to her and she becomes the hero, even though all she did was foolishly kill herself. The dock was so close all she had to do was reach out and grab it.

This movie is the best. The whole Dantes Peak vs Volcano debate is completely unnecessary because they are both AMAZING!

I prefer Dante's Peak but Volcano is still a good movie. The premise was different and Tommy Lee Jones was excellent. The guy melting in the lava was badass.

Dante's Peak owns still got that one in my collection next to Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure, and Twister.
