Uncharted 3 3D Event (I was at the one near DC)

All right, some people might have heard about the Uncharted 3 3D event going on from October 18th - 20th at five AMC theaters around the US. Thankfully, I was lucky that one event was taking place near DC, so I was less than an hour away. A bunch of CAG friends and I all got tickets for the Tuesday showing at AMC Tysons Corner 16 in McLean, VA.
![]() I went ahead and already picked up my tickets while I was in Tysons Corner a few weeks before the event (I preordered online). CAG friends of mine (abhinav, jmiller80, GenDV138, nightmare452, indifference, and G-Nitro) were going to get something to eat at 4:30pm before the event, but since I didn't get off work until 3:30pm (and fighting with Capital Beltway traffic on my way there), no way I was going to be able to get there on time to eat with them. I ended up grabbing an Auntie Anne's pretzel just before the event. So I got there, waiting around for my CAG friends. Since they still didn't finish eating, I said screw it and went inside. I got an Uncharted 3 bag containing stuff, along with my Uncharted premium pass. I gave a friend a co-worker my Subway giftcard since I don't eat Subway (the one who gave me a code to the multi-player early). ![]() Next I signed up for the multi-player, where people were assigned to teams at random (I was team Talbot). I registered my code in order to receive my copy of Uncharted 3 a week early (one big reason I went to the event like many others, $60 for that or $25 for General Admission). After signing up I waited for my CAG friends. I spent a little time playing DDR SuperNOVA, but I screwed up. Once CAG friends arrived, I talked to them and sat in the theater. I wore my Uncharted 2 shirt w/ my PlayStation Gamer Advisory Panel hat. The event started with an Uncharted video showcasing the game in 3D. Two members of Naughty Dog also demonstrated us a portion of the game (looked really awesome). After a little Q&A, the multi-player tournament started. Let's say my team won the first round and I was happy. I'm proud to say I got the winning kill for the team giving us 30 points at the end. Just before the finals, they had a raffle giving everything left away. I was really wanting the Ratchet & Clank T-shirt, but no luck. However, I did win a prize when they called my number "645" blue ticket (huge surprise because I never win). Just what did I win? Just the perfect prize for me, since I like framing all my posters and hanging them up on my wall. Even more sweet that it was pre-signed by the Naughty Dogs (I've been close to them since the Jak X beta days). nightmare452 and GenDV138 can tell you all how happy I was. Oh yeah, I did get to hear the Uncharted 3 DLC announcement at the event, which oh course I'm buying. They showed various trailers during breaks of cool scenes or even showcasing Uncharted: Golden Abyss. ![]() After the final raffle, the championship started w/ my team on the Villains side for the first time. Also, pretty much every game we played before hand was a nailbitter (where it came down to the end. However, this game we started out behind, and only got uglier. Eventually we caught up and took a narrow lead. Someone killed our whole team at once, we fell a part and lost the match (no grand prize for us unfortunately, something I would have really wanted). I was a bit devastated after the match because I didn't get a single kill, had 6 deaths, worst match all night despite doing good earlier. I could have had my treasure book signed by the two Naughty Dog employees at the event, but it was pretty late (just before 11pm) so I headed home. Getting an Uncharted 3 signed poster was already too awesome for me. Overall, I was glad to be at the event. Not just because I was getting to my copy of Uncharted 3 early, but because I had the chance to watch it in 3D, play some competitive multi-player in person, and get cool Uncharted 3 swag. I loved how I got cool stuff for Killzone 3 at MLG last year. I look forward to whatever event SCEA has for their first party games. |

Grand price is the CE of the game.
I can't wait for tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be lucky as you and get to the finals. Maybe even win it all |

Other then hanging out with fellow CAGs, I didn't really enjoy the event. They showed a couple cool video's but otherwise everything was too drawn out and boring. If Mana and the other guys weren't there I think I would have left rather early.

nice blog post mana, although we did see most of the content was already shown and was a bit drawn out I still thought it was fun. Who from ND was at your guys showing?
Oh, and I am jealous you won something, I went away empty handed. |

@abhinav I could agree it was a bit long (because I was thinking it should have been a 2-3 hour event personally), but I had fun w/ the raffle, playing in the tournament (especially since my team made it to the finals), and so on. If I wasn't so tired I would have gotten my book signed.

OH MAN! I must've seen you get that poster but didn't realize it was you.
I could've sworn you were going on Tuesday. Well, hopefully we can coordinate better next time. |
