Looking for a bit of advice, albeit immoral advice

Hey CAGs! I've recently got myself into a bit of a situation here in the City of Calgary and I was looking for some advice. I got a $250 parking ticket from the University of Calgary Parking authority. i got it for a "stolen/counterfeited/altered" ticket which they say they have a picture of, however i did not steal, counterfeit or alter a ticket for the date(Oct 15th), however, my sister whom I share my car with had drawn in a one to make a ticket for Oct 4th look like a ticket for Oct 14th, which is why they ticketed me(on the 15th). I realize that I technically am at fault, but $250 is a lot of money, and I am not interested in paying it at all and i heard that because it is not Calgary Parking authority, i am not required to pay the ticket, and because the car is in my fathers name rather then mine, they can't link it to me and stop me from graduating. however, they can tow it to their impound lot, charge me an extra $100 dollars for that as well. So my question is, if I change my licenses plates(which by the way are BC plates under a name rather then mine(my fathers)) can i get around with paying the UofC's parking ticket? Thanks in advance CAGs! |

You make your sister pay for it. Problem solved.

If they have the vin number they will still be able to figure out who the car belongs to. I would think your best bet is to either call in and ask what can be done if anything or make your sister pay. Technically you are in the wrong for your sisters actions.
Even if you were to change your plates the ticket is still in the system and linked to you so you will just have to pay it. |

At UofA you don't really have to pay unless they have your student ID number. Just make sure they never see your car again if you're not going to pay.

Ot, but I gotta ask, in Canada, is then used instead of than?
Is this something along the line, like the British spelling the word the, teh? |

Yes. Is the bizarre structure of your second sentence an inherently American thing?

Will probably not help you, but at my old Uni in the States, they put a boot on your car if you park on campus property, and didn't pay your ticket after 3 (or maybe it was 6) violations. The couple of people I knew who had that many tickets just parked on public roads, and they couldn't boot their cars there, because the tickets were not issued by the city.

my situation is different my cars have US plates on them so they don't really collect tickets from my sister's car. It's almost like we have diplomatic immunity with how we used to park.

You could try arguing that they cannot fine you the next day for an old altered parking pass. As in they should have caught it on the 14th instead of the 15th to prove the parking pass was altered to avoid paying parking for the day.
If that doesn't work, get your sister to pay up. If that doesn't work, prepare for a hold on your student record. |

do they have a way to dispute the ticket? if so dispute it but first call your sister, record the call and get her to talk and say what she did, then if you can get a date in court or in front of an official explain situation and Turn in your Sister.. case closed, & shJaile pays fine Or Goes Jail (either way she learns not to break law) win-win

1. I would contact them and explain the situation and try to get them to drop it. Of course they will probably not care.
2. Give me your sister's phone number. She has been a bad girl and needs to be punished. |

You should give them a call and see if you could dispute it. At my uni, you could contest a ticket and they had an arbitration panel every couple weeks - made up of faculty. They usually let it go if it was a first violation and if you were polite and tried to explain in a calm and rational way.
