I don't get the appeal of fantasy games

Everybody is talking about skyrim. I saw a commercial for it the other day and I was like damn this dragon looks gorgeous. But, I'm not a huge fan of fantasy. It seems over done and the same tropes are used in every game. I like game of thrones but, that is because the imp guy is funny and the blond chick shows her boobs. Does anyone else not understand the appeal of listening to people speak in non comprehensible gibberish?

THANK YOU! This is primarily why I can't get too much into Elder Scrolls games, I just find medieval settings very generic & dull.

I kinda feel like the medieval setting just isn't as enjoyable as it used to be for me, or at least from the viewpoint of the typical adventurer. I enjoyed being Link in OoT, but then again I was just a little kid back then. I didn't enjoy oblivion when I tried it last year, kinda felt like it had been overplayed a bit. I did however enjoy the Assassins Creed games, which were in the same medieval-esqu time(a little less in the renaissance bit though) because I wasn't just an adventurer going about clearing out dungeons and getting better swords and slaying enemies and shit. But to each their own.

I have always loved Fantasy games, Played my share of D&D (Games, books, table top, you name it), however as time goes on I might be liking it less.
While playing my 1st (and thus far only) marathon session of Skyrim I kept thinking about things that were in Fallout 3 that I loved and missed because they weren't in Skyrim. However, that said, and so forth, on and on, I have been enjoying my time with Skyrim - we will see if I like it as much as Fallout 3 after 30-50 hours. |

@grrouchie You hit the nail on the head. I think the major reason I can't like games with medieval settings is the time I spent with Fallout 3. The personality that oozed out of that game, compared to some, IMO, drabness is medieval settings is a real turn off. That, and fact is guns make a HUGE difference in combat between ES/FO games. You largely have to hack/slash in ES with the occasional spell, but in FO I had the option to just dispose of a smarmy #### in one shot with a Fatman or flank him with my follower. Ah, good times...

A lot of people into fantasy games played D&D as a kid. Also, you emerese yourself in a different world with magic, different creatures, and cool weapons.
Its no different then what you like. I didn't like fallout as I dont like games with barren wastelands much (i.e. borderlands). Its just personal preference. |

I really enjoy fantasy settings but I would have loved for Skyrim to include a VATS-type system for handling encounters.

I don't understand the appeal of games with army dudes running around shooting each other
