Is Gotham City Imposters taking DLC too far?

I posted an article about it here: http://bgbureau.com/1146/gotham-city-imposters-committing-a-dlc-foul/

But I need to take this to the blog because its a question that deserves to be asked.

For the gist of what's going on, Gotham City Imposters is a downloadable game coming out tomorrow on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for $15. In the game, you unlock weapons, shirts. pants, masks, etc as you rank up. But as revealed today, you can also pay a pretty penny to unlock these items at any time.

Now, if someone wants to pay to unlock something, that's fine. But it's another thing, in my opinion, when the developer tries to charge $4 to unlock a pair of pants for the game. I'm still gonna get the game because I have been anticipating it since playing the beta, but I can fully see why people would want to boycott this sort of thing, and already have started doing so.

What do you think. Is this taking the DLC train a little too far?

When I saw all the DLC for the game today <all of it pretty much clogged up the entire Add-on section for 360> all I could thinks was WTF??? I don't mind the occasional add-ons and unlockables, but this shit is over the top rediculous.
All the more reason that you need to educate yourself on what you are buying. People love buying this kind of stuff ( i personallly dont get it but c'est la vie) and companies love taking your money for crap so I guess its a good match. I personally will not partake in anything like this because Im a CAG.

Not a big deal as far as I can see. When they go the Capcom route of selling overpriced costume and character DLC for full priced games (SFIV, SSFIV, SSFIV Arcade, Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2 OTR, etc.) that is *not* available to unlock in the game and is on the disc itself?

That's a serious foul. This? This just creates clutter in the marketplace.

Is it all cosmetic? If so, who cares? Portal 2 launched with a shop full of goofy crap and people got over that pretty fast when they realized it's all just fluff.

no one is making you buy it.

I agree with those saying that no one is making you buy it. Personally, it doesn't affect me and I'm still getting the game. But there has been a bit of an uproar about it.

What am I spending $15 for, to create a generic character that, to set him or her apart from others in the game, I need to spend more to do so? Not going to happen and thanks for cluttering up the 360's add-on new releases.

Blame it on the people who buy stupid DLC. Companies see that and keep trying to stretch what hey can charge. As long as morons keep buying that crap it is only going to get worse.
I'm not sure what the big deal is. Apparently, all of the DLC is purely cosmetic and can be unlocked in-game without buying the DLC anyway (as I understand it). The worst problem I see is clutter, but they can easily list everything under one subject / heading / etc.

This doesn't seem too different from Street Fighter III allowing DLC for Gill and / or dipsticks, giving the player stuff that would usually take a lot of time to unlock. And neither can be used online anyway IIRC.

If the ' pants ' DLC gave you additional bonuses, then yeah, i would be pissed.

but a barbie doll add-on collection? i say..let the " fabulous " be fabulous and the straight be straight(lol)

Don't buy these types of games and the game developers/publishers will stop making this shit. Vote with your wallet!

Sucsk cause so many kids/parents will buy this crap. All of it. Reminds me of when i first saw skins for $4 on gears 3. Sucks but its $$$
Imposters is a cheap $15 game. No one gets on Valve's case for doing this with hats in a (now) free game TF2. People will buy this, it'll make them money. It's better than making a game $60 and calling it a new game(All of the CODs and every single Final Fantasy)
Every single Final Fantasy? Really? To each his/her own I suppose.

I really hate that is fills the new release DLC cue. The Rock Band songs are bad enough.

every COD? Ill gladly pay $60 every year for a new(er) COD. tons of fun man

I have no issues with this. But as said before: it's for the OCD that don't want to play, throw it on there. DLC that cost $$ unlock already on disc is where I ing lose it
