Mass Effect 3 Demo Impressions |

he Reapers have arrived and they bring with them the proverbial power of the almighty PWN! From the deepest darkest reaches of space, this collective of sentient dreadnoughts awaken every 50,000 years to destroy all life in the known universe. If the sticking point of Mass Effect 2 is that you will die, then the theme of Mass Effect 3 is that everyone will die.
It's no secret that this will be the most action packed Mass Effect in the series, which is exactly what you get in the demo. The Reapers attack, Commander Shephard says "I told you so" and you test out the brand new third person mechanics. Yes they work great, yes you can hide behind, vault over or roadie run from cover, and no this is not Gears of Mass Effect. Gears' mechanics are finely tuned for competitive play, and while Mass Effect's are not, that is not a bad thing. They make the combat more fluid and thus (in my best estimation) adds longevity to the base mechanics. This is NOT a shooter, but the fighting which can sometimes be the weak point of an RPG will not be frustrating nor game breaking in ME3. If anything this is what you should be paying attention to when playing the demo. If the gameplay really grinds your gears then maybe think twice about purchasing ME3. The story will be fulfilling I believe, albeit with a touch of cheese at parts. The second half of the demo is a treat to the fans of ME1 bringing back Urdnot Wrex an old favorite, and providing a tense firefight. Don't Bother with the Story or action gameplay options, you're a fool if you decide to play ME3 in any of these. The ME3 demo also has a multiplayer horde/survival mode, which surprisingly does not suck. You have base options in changing your appearance with increasing options as you level up. Essentially you fight waves of enemies (possibly Cerberus) of increasing difficulty. Every couple rounds you and your team will be tasked with hacking several computers, waiting an allotted time at an LZ or taking out a boss enemy. You can select all of the classes found in the single player and level them up accordingly. Could be an interesting diversion after playing the single player game. In conclusion, if you have not played Mass Effect previously check the demo out and see if the mechanics agree with you; everyone else, buy this game!
