HELP: Paypal funds taken! XBL Link? Do the Shipwrecks know the culprit? Small Update |

UPDATE:
Okay I'll start from "the beginning" or when I became aware something was wrong. About two hours ago I was going to order a game off of Lockerz for my friend since it was at a good price with points discount (SFxT SE for $51 or so). I'm checking out at Lockerz and go to signin to PayPal using email "A" (also use this email for CAG and paypal on CAG I get some page that says I was randomly selected or something about security (don't remember the "random" wording that well now). Then I get some page that asks me to change password, security questions etc. I google this to see what's up. Apparently that page shows up if there is some resolution issue. EDIT: everytime I logoff or session expires and have to sign back in again, the page is the create new password security question etc (tried using email A and B but same). I check my email A and search for paypal. There was an email from Tuesday after midnight my time. It was from paypal saying "R P" (those are first and last name initials, not going to reveal name atm) would liked to be paid. The amount is $220 .I go back to paypal and see that my balance is $200 something when it was $400 something days ago. The last two transactions is a "bill" from that person and then payment to him. My paypal is limited and there is an open dispute (I didn't open it so should I be even more worried?). Googling the person's name didn't get much but his email did. His email got some gamebattles and some music site called soundcloud (6 hits). I then searched again this time replace the underscore in the name with a space. This time 7 hits with bungie, halotracker, halocharts and xbox.com. The gt had the same name "R P" and the avatar appears to be of a black guy if it matters. The location: ******, OH and Bio: "Шогld Оf Шагсгаfт ツ" (yes thats the font copy/pasted from xbox.com). This gt has 3000 something gamerscore and blocked activity (okay can see now that I signed in on xbox.com) but I can see that he is currently (or was) playin UFC I also found a Linkedin page for a "R P" in Columbus, Ohio. Last name same, first name very similar but if someone were to use a shortened version both nicknames would be the same. EDIT: his xbl avatar's speach bubble has "R**** P", the same "R" as that linkedin. This is most likely the same person then! EDIT 2: I looked up Ohio and seems that the distance from the city (suspect's location) and Columbus is over 100 miles. So it may not be the linkedin guy... I found a "clan member" of his in one of the gamebattles results (the two got raped by another halo clan) and looked that up too. GT doesn't exist anymore. Got a youtube and twitter account and likely his name "Steven W" on bio (twitter name has parts of steve). This name is too common especially when there's a wikipedia page of someone with that name... I change my password and decide to check email "B". Email B is actual the original email I signed up with paypal and also happens to be the one I use for xbl. Email B has two emails that A doesn't. The first is one saying payment was sent to that person. The timestamp is within a minute of the request payment email that A received (note that both emails are different domains). The other email is from today around 2:30 pm saying that my account is limited until the issue is resolved. Again I never disputed anything but there is an issue opened in paypal. I'm going to call them up tomorrow. I last used this Paypal on Monday to buy USPS labels (not via ebay). This paypal I haven't used on ebay for over 9+ months to even longer. I do not believe this paypal was ever used on my xbl account (had/have expired cc on their need to take off soon especially with this). This paypal has my cc and bank. I haven't logged onto xbl since last week. CAGs please give advice! Hopefully paypal cs can help when I call tomorrow (I don't want them looking up my other paypal accounts however - sure I used different telephone numbers!). Also once Paypal resolves this (hope they do), what should I do from there? Contact MS? Get Shipwreck to take names in Ohio? |

You sure where it popped up and wanted you to change your password wasn't some phishing scam?
Is it possible you used it on xbl before and forgot about it? That's the only two things I can think of. Either way somehow this guy got your information and that sucks. Maybe paypal can get it sorted out. I assume you tired messaging that guy on xbl but I don't know how much help that would be. I doubt he would reply. |

is that jman
I'm pretty sure it was a PaYpal page. No popup. I logged in and the page loaded. The url was still PayPall and saw the https. It may be possible, but I doubt it. I used my cc only when there was some $1 for month of gold. I use codes for msp and live. Also if I did use my paypal wouldn't I receive an email that I did so etc? I checked email B and search paypal and xbox but none of the emails wee xbl purchases. I did not message him as that would tip him off! |

Good luck with this, but why did you drag Shipwreck into this?

Scorch, the paypal person is from Ohio. Also aside from the Linkedin page, I found several people with the same name (variations of first name) in Ohio in the medical field (at least 6 or 7 different people based on middle initial and age). Mrs. Shipwreck is a veterinarian so I wouldn't be surprised if she at least knows someone that knows one of these "R P"s in the medical field.
Again it is just speculation on my part. Also putting it in the blog title would likely get more people to read and potentially more suggestions. |

iwarboY, after Google and checking results FB was what I tried next (Linkedin and Twitter after). I didn't even get any "R P"s in Ohio on FB.
mitch, I just Google mostly and check the big name sites. I use " " to get exact string and - to exclude terms. That's the extent of my searching abilities. |

Not going to lie, I came for the Shipwreck, stayed for the story. That sucks man, I hope this gets resolved for you.
