It really was pretty bad. I just beat it about 6 months ago for the first time on the MGS collection. What a huge disappointment for me. Apparently MGS3 is way better, but 2 was a huge letdown after I really enjoyed 1.

Same here Tyler, loved the first one and loved it again with Twin Snakes. This one lacks pretty much everything that made the first one great, instead giving us repetitive gameplay, completely forgettable characters, and a nonsensical story. I can't at all understand why this game got so much praise. I'm expecting a lot more from #3.

That story...I mean I know this is MGS, but it's still makes me shake my head.

Does the HD Collection version have all the Substance bonus content? (Are you playing the HD Collection, for that matter?) All those VR missions are what saved MGS2 for me. Having hundreds of bite-sized challenges available made me appreciate how sublime the gameplay is, especially when there's no ridiculous story to get in the way. I hope you'll give them a try if possible.
And yes, MGS3 is one of the best games of all time. |

I argued about MGS2 vs MGS3 on ep110(I know no one listened but I have to mention it) with Tiny for the millionth time last week. I don't have any hatred of Raiden but MGS3 is just so solid. Better bosses, deeper gameplay and the fight with the Boss is incredible. In all honestly neither of us finished the other game....so yeah.

Huh. I loved 2 waaaaay more than 3. But if you didn't like 2, you'll probably like 3.

I never played MGS1, but heard from a buddy for years about how it was the greatest game of all time, and Snake was the coolest character ever, etc. When MGS2 was coming out, I played the demo from Playstation Magazine and got completely swept up in the hype. Then I played it, hated it, and never touched the series again.
MGS4 piqued my interest enough to get a copy, but years later it still sits in it's shrinkwrap at the bottom of my backlog, unplayed. I blame MGS2. |

^At least if you ever plug it in, you can earn trophies now.

Yeah, I agree with celegus, I liked MGS2 better than 3. Even so, 3 was still a masterpiece.

@Blank Earth : I agree with you on that.
3 was better but still it was no way a masterpiece. |

That's crazy it's like you're channeling my feelings after finishing Assassin's Creed

Oh man, don't get me started on Assassin's Creed. It was awesome for about 5 minutes and then became so mind-numbingly boring I quit after a few hours. I ended up trying the second one to see if it got any better, but after a couple hours I could tell it was more of the same. Always wished I liked the series, but I just can't get into it.

I don't think the game is as bad as everyone talks it up to be. It pales in comparison to MGS1 and MGS3, but I enjoyed MGS2 as well, just not nearly as much.
