Job Interview |

I have two job interviews tomorrow and feel a bit overwhelmed. The first interview starts at 1pm and is at Circle-K (the one I'm interested in) and my friend got me this interview and told me to expect to get the job because he put in a great word. The other one is at McDonald's. I need help knowing what to say and not say and what kind of questions they'll ask, for those who are working at Circle-K. For those who don't know what it is, it's essentially is a 7-11. The only reason I'm not interested in the McDonald's one, is because it's not located in my town and I'll have to drive 40 miles for the interview, but is located near my University which I go almost every weekday except Friday.
Edit: So I've finished my interview and from what I can tell, they really want me to get this job because they'll be one less person come Thanksgiving week and training takes two weeks to complete. I have another interview, one with the main boss that I may or may not be doing later today. She told me she had to be real hard on me because of her boss. She either is much more strict or nice. I hope it's the nice one. I like this lady, she understands what I'm going through and seems like a great boss and person. |

Honestly, given your facts you should have relatively little to worry about for Circle K. Your friend already put in a great word for you, and the interviewer will be eager to see if he's right about you.
Just make sure you get there 15 minutes early. Courteously ask the employees to direct you to the supervisor who's going to interview you. (I can guarantee you that after the interview the employees will be asked what they thought of you and whether they can see themselves working with you) As for questions, for this type of job they want to get the sense that they can count on you to show up. Maybe a few about how to deal with customers. Just make sure you give standard "I'm reliable" and "customer satisfaction is the #1 goal" and keep eye contact. |

Good luck!
I am not the best interviewee, but I try to be confident and always answer the questions to the best of my ability. Those aren't bad places to start, I did both (similar places anyways) on my way up the ladder. The best part is, my boss came from the same background as me, but 15 years earlier, so don't think you can never do anything else! |

I agree with pretty much everything Franksta said, except don't count on getting the job. It's very possible that you don't get the Circle K job, so don't get your hopes up way too high. Go into the interview confident but not like you have a sense of entitlement like the job is yours. For all you know, the boss doesn't like your friend, so a recommendation from him may not be as good of a thing as you think it is.
For positions like these, make sure you emphasize that you're reliable, and think of a good example from the past (probably a previous job) you can use to show you are reliable. Employers like these are looking for employees that will work their set schedules, and be there on time to man the shop. I would definitely also focus on any experience you already have with being good at customer services as well as being trustworthy. I would think that flexibility would also be something that the supervisor is looking for, since a lot of convenience stores have rotating shifts and people calling in sick. |

I really hope they dont give you the bullshit question of "Give us an example of a time you had to deal with a difficult situation/customer"...really hate that one

^Haha that's a great question. Also very easy to answer. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to practice common interview questions at home, and already have specific examples of your experiences in mind when you're asked those questions.
