Are video games the cause of the CT massacre? |

Have people wondered WHEN will Americans express the same outrage over the deaths of innocent children abroad (via Obama's murderous drone program) as they do with the shooting of children in Connecticut. This is violence they can actually exercise more control over compared to controlling the actions of a lone person.
![]() If you are opposed to THIS killing of children please add your name to this petition. If you are for it, then don't sign it: Ban Weaponized Drones from the World And before any knee-jerk responses on this comparison, let me put forward the futurist George Orwell's quote: "The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them." And if you are racist (such as CAG Allahbomber) then please do make your true opinion know on the lesser lives that brown people (and others) hold to Americans. By "American" you mean the white ones. Definitely not the black shooting victims we leave to violent circumstances in our great nation. Here's a good article reflecting my point making the rounds: Is America Like Adam Lanza? U.S. Drone Strikes Have Killed 176 Children in Pakistan Alone
Although most of us do not know the victims or their families, the news reports each and every detail of the event, and our hearts and thoughts go out to those who are suffering. Yet, something about this seems entirely hypocritical; we as Americans largely ignore when our own government, in countries around the world, murders innocent children but when an American child dies, our media and our nation can focus on nothing else. Meanwhile, U.S. drones are killing children and terrorizing families abroad. Earlier this year, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism found that 176 children have been murdered in Pakistan alone. And along with drone attacks, an average of 4.8 children are killed per day in Afghanistan where earlier this year, a U.S. sergeant is reported to have killed 9 children. Will these murders be deemed worthy of our thoughts and prayers, or even our news headlines? These deaths abroad are tragic too. These deaths will also affect the loved ones of victims for years to come and their lives are no less-worthy of thoughts, prayers and government (or civilian) action. Some will disagree with me and say that we should care about the deaths of children in the U.S. to a greater extent than the deaths of those abroad, because children living here are part of our nation. But most of us don't know the loved ones of the deceased in Connecticut any better than we know deceased in other countries. With all men (and children) created equal, we as Americans should care when any child is killed, not just the ones who happen to be born in a certain geographical region called the United States. Here, we worry that our children might be afraid to go to school because there is now a 1 in 67,140 chance that their elementary school might be attacked. But we cause that same fear when we allow our government to fire missiles at schools abroad. Sadaullah Khan, a 15-year old boy who lost both legs in a drone strike says, "I used to go to school … I thought I would become a doctor. After the drone strikes, I stopped going to school." Here in the U.S., parents worry that they might have to attend the funeral of their own child. But our government strikes fear into the hearts of parents abroad when it kills their children during funerals. When we worry about the safety of our children, we forget that it is our drone strikes, our money and our democratically-elected government that cause the same fear in select countries around the world. And yet, Americans are going to spend thousands of hours supporting or protesting various gun laws to "save the children," here at home. But in reality, Americans could save many more children if they protested our own government's killing of hundreds of children abroad. But Americans won't spend their time this way, even if it would save more children's lives. It seems that Americans should care when any child is murdered, not just when American ones are. Now, on what some of you have been waiting for... video games... Have folks seen the Republicans great analytical insights to the root causes of this incident? Drum roll please... VIDEO GAMES!!!! I mean really... how pathetic an attempt to divert the attention away from our gun masturbatory culture. And if you still haven't signed here, please do: Ban Weaponized Drones from the World |

I agree, the drone attacks are an atrocity. America has enough problems within it's borders that need to be dealt with, first and foremost, instead of senseless bombings of other countries. People love to throw around the costs of "entitlements" but neglect the enormous cost of these drone attacks and related militaristic operations (conversely, I'm not speaking of cutting defense budgets - drone attacks are not "defense" operations). Ironically, these drone attacks will also lead to potential blowbacks in the United States' future due to increasing international hate towards us. Every innocent civilian in Pakistan that has lost a family member to a U.S. drone will grow to despise the U.S., and with good reason.
People can blame movies, video games, entertainment, until their blue in the face, as the cause of violence in America - but perhaps it's really our politicians' inadequate value of human life that continues to propel this country into a downward spiral. When our "leaders" cast such little regard for human lives, something utterly irreplaceable, what does that say to society? That will desensitize anyone more than a violent video game would ever be capable of doing. |

Speak brother, SPEAK!!
===== And lets not forget about the sanction that U.S. made for the middle east back in the 90s, which caused the death 200,000 babies. |

Always got to be one of you guys on the internets.
*Tragedy occurs *Nation reacts Oh but wait a second! There's an even greater tragedy occurring, how dare we feel any sense of emotion when there is something far worse happening abroad! Thank you Mr. Holier-than-thou for showing me my hypocritical ways. You are an inspiration and a role model. Hmm... I wonder why these types of people make these self-righteous comments and blogs only in response to a national tragedy, but never bring up squat any other day of the year... |

It has a lot to do with our culture, which video games are a part of. I don't think video games had anything to do with the incident in CT but they're definitely used as propaganda (i.e. Call of Duty). I still can't believe Xbox Live enticed gamers to watch the presidential debate with some free avatar clothes and then gave them a survey asking if they'd support the use of more drones in warfare. Somewhere around 70% said yes.
Possibly my favorite quote: “The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.” - Elie Wiesel |

Thanks Solidus for your points. You're right. Our political establishment does devalue human life across the board. Obviously, poor brown/black/etc people abroad are worth less. Then at home, the same with our poor brown/black/etc people. We have a very violent culture. We worship war (what else do we do when our nation has been CONSTANTLY engaged in wars and covert operations against other nations). Any wonder that this violent way of being manifests at home in these ways? Bill Clinton, in a show of irony and hypocrisy, said in response to the Columbine shooting, "violence is not the way to resolve conflict." (paraphrasing) What was going on when he said that? I'm sure the likes of antlp89, can't even recall, we were engaged in one of the biggest bombing campaigns the world had seen in Yugoslavia. As history shows, this was an unnecessary attack and in fact predictably escalated violence against innocents. I'd say we are a nation of ironies but really we are a nation of hypocrisies.

And of course there are plenty of people like antlp89 on the internet. People who have no capacity for connecting what may seem like disparate events. Let's apply his "logic" of "*Tragedy occurs, *Nation reacts":
How about like this... *Tragedy occurs: Innocent civilians murdered by robot fire (AKA drone missiles) in whatever darkie country there is. *Nation reacts US citizens demand and protest and force politicians away from this act of illegal warfare and WAR CRIME. (Oh right, that never happened... so much for supposed humanitarianism of the US public.) Reality of non-stop illegal war crime campaign (vis-a-vis the antlp89s of this nation): "Huh? We did what? Oh, let me get back to this program." And then go xmas shopping. Shop, shop til you drop! Shop, shop, never stop. (To the tune of Def Leppard's "Rock, rock til you drop." Really, its the ignorant lemmings like this who are the problem with US democracy and ruin it for the responsible citizens and people the world over. "Oh gawd! Look at our tragedy!!! While we blow up wedding parties in your country!! Kill babies! Why don't you stop your weeping for your friends and families and focus on what is important... US(A)! |

Thanks for your support and your mention of the US enforced genocide of children. Madeleine Albright is indeed a sick witch. No offence to Wiccans. |
