First PC build

I have had the urge to build a PC for many years, but I have always bought pre-built, because I always found really good deals. Over the years I have done many component upgrades/replacements and the desire to build from scratch has persisted. Around the first of this year I decided to finally do it and have been gathering parts and finally ordered the remaining parts today. Here are the parts I have (or are awaiting delivery:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/InNH The SSD listed was the closest to the one I ordered, everything else is listed correctly. Fortunately my total was significantly less and I was able to use about $500 worth of rewards cards I saved from my employer - also have about $100 in rebates to collect. I cannot wait until the final parts arrive so I can assemble this thing! Should be running by next weekend. |

Welcome to the master race. Just to point out that your CPU is freaking godlike. Your GPU is pretty good and will destroy most games, but do not expect to turn on every fancy option with it (it will still be able to do 1080 @ 60fps with optimizations).
Just saying that with what you are spending you could have picked up a 7950 or a 670 by shaving a few bucks off the PSU, cpu cooler and case. |

I almost bought a 7950 and I may wish I had. The 7870 GHz Edition performs very close to a 7950 though for a fair amount less $$. I did pay quite a bit less for the CPU and case compared to what is listed on PCPartPicker . The CPU was purchased from Micro Center for almost $40 less than listed (MB was about $50 less when I purchased it with the CPU) and the case was $99 OTD and had a $20 rebate that already shows it has bee accepted.
I agonized over the GPU for quite awhile. My gaming is done at 1920x1200 and I figured the 7870 should be able to handle what I through at it for now and I can always pick up another 7870 when the price drops. I was trying to keep the total price under $1000 and the 7950 would have put me over (before taking into account all the rebates my purchases generated). |

I think you still have a great system on your hands for paying under $1000!

I have an Asus 7870 and have been really really pleased with it so far. Should be an awesome build.
Just ran a benchmark on the new Tomb Raider. On Ultra Settings on 1920x1080 the max fps was 60.3, Min was 46.6 and it avg'd 55.5 fps, so it performs well with the current games. I know you were planning on playing on a higher resolution but Id think this would suffice, especially on high instead of ultra. |

I use an "8 core" FX8120 thats 3.1ghz stock but is running perfect and cool at 4.0ghz, which is decent but yours should kill that, and I have 8 gigs Corsair vengeance ram
