Mega Man 9 for WiiWare saddens me.

Oh Mega Man, you so handsome! When Mega Man 9 was a WiiWare exclusive for about 7 minutes, it was pretty exciting for Wii owners. It was like.. WOW, we are getting a REAL game that non-wii owners may be jealous of! What a FIRST! But then, Capcom DID do the right thing and declared Mega Man 9 will be downloadable on all 3 consoles. This is not what bothers me. I think that it's smart to do that. What bothers me is that, I don't think people (whom are multi-console owners) will download it on the Wii. Now this is NOT a "OMG SUPPORT THE Wii" blog post. Not at all. In fact, I have started to understand some of the hate the Wii gets..but that's a whole other blog one day. This is an 8 bit game, so this game is going to look exactly the same on all 3 consoles..despite what ANY fanboy is going to say, but you know what? The WiiWare version of this game IS indeed going to be the superior version and I don't think anyone will recognize it. Why? The controls. Not only is Mega Man 9 coming out as an 8 bit game that's 100% fan service, but using the Wii remote as an NES style controller IS what's going to be icing on the cake. Sure, the 360 version will have achievements..and I am not sure if the PSN version will have trophies, but this game is going to feel awkward as all hell playing with the D-Pad on the 360 controller. I don't own a PS3 so I can't comment on that. So what do you think? If you are a multi-console owner who is indeed getting Mega Man 9, what version will you be picking up and why? I especially want to know why you would choose another version over the Wii version. Are achievements more important then having good, classic controls? Or will the controls be the deciding factor for you? |

Despite the lack of hard drive space, I will be buying this on the Wii no question.
I love me some acheivement points, but I hate that d-pad so much. And I modded mine so it works better too, but it is still pretty rough. |

I agree that I can see how the space issue can somewhat persuade someone to NOT get the WiiWare version..but if it's an 8bit game how many blocks can this be? NES games on the Wii are like 20-30 blocks. I can't see this game being more then 50!

I am really struggling with this choice as well.
I would love to play it with the Wiimote, but I think that with acheivements, I will be more motivated to play the hell out of the game. Are you sure that you will have to use the D-Pad with the 360? No joystick? Either way, the Wii will have superior controls. Wii: + NES style controls + Finally something worth playing on Wiiware 360: + Acheivements - D-Pad sucks |

@dan: I agree, and I think maybe that's why MM9 was a Nintendo exclusive for that short period of time.
@wingwright: I guess that depends on what kind of achievement whore you are |

Nerd points/trophies will deinitely kill a lot of the support for the Wii version among multiconsole owners. As for me, I own point a PS3 and Wii, and am kinda sorta interested. I don't want to put my credit card on file, so Wii points being easier to buy(at least in a Meijer-less area) is a plus for the Wii. But playing Super Paper Mario, I can't say I'm absolutely in love with the sideways remote. I like the Sixaxis much better, especially with it's smoother d-pad, so that's a point for the PS3. Memory isn't a problem for me because I don't buy an VC games on the Wii, and I have a fairly hefty 60GB PS3. And my final reason, is I just play my PS3 more than my Wii. But I'm not sure if this would want me to get this on the Wii to spend more time with it, or on the PS3 since it'll be more accessable.... So it's a toss up for me.

@Chronis: I know you said you don't buy any VC games, but if you did and you played some NES games with the Wii remote sideways, you would enjoy it. I don't think anyone has had any real complaints with NES games and their control.. since the NES controls consist of a D-Pad and A and B,
Like I said before, I don't think memory is going to be a deal breaker for this game. This block size of this game can NOT be that big! |

I just wish Nintendo would release the NES controller for the Wii like they promised a long while back.

I have some spare points I could use on this for the wii, but the problem is that I never turn my wii on. I'm always on my ps3 so I'll probably be getting it there for an easier pick up and play.

If the PS3 version has trophies, I'll get that one, as it's still a good D-pad. If not, it's the Wii version for me. Not that I care about trophies a ton, but it's like an added bonus.

PS3 version for me. I feel that it has the best D-pad out of all of them.

Yah, I bought the GC version of MM Anniversary, then had to rebuy it on the PS2 because the controls were absolute garbage. I'm not buying 9, for the simple fact it's a ripoff at the price, and they are preying on the nostalgia hungry fanboys. This should have been a bonus with another Capacom game, or a send away. Sure, it fits in with the old games, but they could have at least threw in a remixed version for the absurd price IMO.

drone8888: $10 for a new 8-bit game is too much?
Wut? If this game was anything like Mega Man 8 in terms of graphics or even on disc, you can bet Capcom would make you pay up to at least $30 for the game. $10 is nothing for a new game. Now, if Capcom was making you pay $10 for Mega Man 1 - 6 separately, than you might be on to something. |

I'm not defending the 360 d-pad, as it sucks, but I have to say that Mega Man isn't the most demanding series on the accuracy of a d-pad. It's not like you need to press up-right to jump, or anything.
I'm sure it'll be just fine on any of the systems. |

As much of an achievement whore I am, I going to probably get this for the Wii. I agree with dan in saying that you can only play a classic MM game on a Nintendo console, and I think that using the Wii Remote as an NES controller will feel better than the other options.

@ bornrunnin31, I'll buy it on PS3 also. Mostly it's because I like the D-pad and it's where my wallet usually has money.

Honestly I hate using the Wiimote sideways. It's too thin, it doesn't make me reminiscent of the NES controller at all aside from the buttons.
I think the Sixaxis/DS3 is a great controller, but IMO all 3 versions of the Dualshock were excellent, but that's keeping in mind that they were largely based on the SNES controller design. I don't have my own Wii yet, but hope to very soon, but even if I have one in time I'll either use a classic controller or get it on PSN. |

I have some MS pts that were cheaply aquired and no Wii, so 360 is my choice. I have the MM Anniversary Xbox version and don't find the 360 controller to be too intrusive in that game, so yeah, 360.
