Spore Problems |

I woke up to a message this morning, the day after Spore's release, from Circuit City.com, who I'd pre-ordered from because of the $10 gift card with purchase deal, saying there was a delay shipping Spore to me because the manufacturer hasn't yet released the game. :(
I checked every where else, and it seemed to be in stock. When I checked Amazon.com to see if they had stock, I was greeted by an average review score of one star. I went in to see what the fuss was all about. People are incredibly unhappy about the DRM copy protection scheme Spore uses. Man. This is kind of a crappy start to the morning. Who knows when my copy will actually ship, and not only that, the DRM installs scary stuff on my computer and can cause all kinds of problems (one person commented, "Buying Spore isn't even a purchase; it's a $50 rental with copy protection like this"). I'd love to get some feedback, but I don't have any cute or clever pictures to insert in this entry. Edit: Unsurprisingly, on the Amazon/DRM problem, Kotaku beat me to the punch! Via someone else. http://kotaku.com/5046552/amazon-rev...-to-spores-drm |

Game installed and runs just fine on my PC.
I'd love it if they'd drop the DRM, but really, I don't need to install my game more than once lol (Spore kicks major ass btw :P) |

Do they let you reinstall it if you uninstall? :S That's rather a necessity.
I'm ticked at Circuit City for not shipping mine out. I don't get what the deal is. Hopefully they'll reply to me soon. |

Dunno, I haven't tried to uninstall it myself
Hopefully they'll remove the DRM like they did with Bioshock when everybody complained though |

my understanding is you can install *three* times per serial after which you need to call EA and have the count extended. Kind of lame if you ask me. I have it installed on my Macbook though and havent had the DRM cause me any issues yet.

I'm not sure if it's the same, although it seems to be, as Mass Effect, which also had the "three times" thing. Basically it takes a snapshot of your PC make-up, so even if you so much as change video cards, that counts as a reinstall. Weird, huh?
Some guy changed a video card, then got a new hard drive, then uninstalled and reinstalled, and those were his "three" with Mass Effect. When he tried to install it again, he had to call EA, and their solution? "Buy another copy." I'd be ticked off, too. |
