Thoughts on Zelda: Twilight Princess |
![]() Easily now the most infamous of the Zelda games overall. Many people across the net have made their thoughts on this game clear and for whatever the reasoning maybe it's well founded. Afterall, all you have to do is look back on the first trailer for Twilight Princess to know that the game promised a lot that never really came about in the final release of the game. A lot was changed. From design, pets, game play, removed monsters, etc... In the end though, it's easily in my top 5 Zelda games. Majora's Mask. Allow me to talk about this game for a second. Majora's Mask is as far as game play and design goes the best Zelda game in my opinion and it's sad so many people didn't play it or never finished it. Especially those people who think every game in the series is the same. It really is a different interesting game that should be played by fans of the series. The time limit factor makes it frustrating at times to be sure but as for as games that use that mechanic go it's not that punishing. In the end I like the graphics in Twilight Princess more than Wind Waker, or should I say overall art design. I get some hate online for that but it's just my personal taste. Midna, Zant, the castles, Dungeons, and various monster designs, as well as layout of the twilight and normal variations of Hyrule I thought were very well done and much more interesting to look at and play in. Also I think a lot of people are remembering Wind Waker with rose colored glasses. The animation, and a lot of the scenes were breath taking in Wind Waker I will agree but the game was half finished and missing ALL the dungeons that should have been for gathering the Triforce. Instead you use your crane, and pay Tingle an ass load or Rupees to decipher maps before going out and finding them with no real fan fare. In the end to me the only thing wrong with Twilight Princess was that it needed a difficulty tuner; a Master Quest as it were for experienced players. The game is very lengthy and I enjoyed it a lot overall, so all other gripes I personally have are more like things I’d love to see in a sequel. A lot of the game play with the items, mounts, and pets expanded on, more fights in the huge open environments, magical spells of varying effect in addition to the items, etc... Although what exactly the next Zelda game will be is anybody's guess at the moment. But as for other fans out there… Look at how such a great different game like Majora's Mask, and even Wind Waker to an extent were received by fans; how they sold in comparison to previous Zelda games, if you want the answer for why Nintendo decided to play it safe with a lot of the aspects in Twilight Princess. Twilight Princess sold better then Wind Waker and Majora’s Mask. And very soon it will have sold better than those two games combined. I’m curious about any thoughtful comments other people who have played all the Handheld, and console Zelda games thinks? I overall love this style of game personally and can’t get enough of it. Other people like Wombat for instance seem to have moved on for the most part. Art Style, Game Play what direction would you want the series to go in? More Hard Core and difficult, different Game Play elements entirely, Cell shaded, etc… |

I've played most of the Zelda games across the many platforms. I didn't play Majora's Mask mainly because I had sold my N64 before it came out. I never had a GameCube so I never played Wind Waker. The cell shaded cartoony design turned me off of that game as well. I've enjoyed the series since the original. I can remember as a kid dying to get my hands on the sequel once it was announced. I seem to remember some lame excuse from Nintendo about a shortage of batteries or something that caused tons of delays.
Overall I loved TP for the Wii. It was pretty much the reason why I deceided to get a Wii in the first place. The control scheme work perfectly for that game. Although the game was long it was pretty easy. I agree with you, I wish they had included some sort of "Master Quest" or some other sort of additional bonus to play for after completing the game. |

I've played a good bunch of Zelda games and I really can't say I liked TP. Not to say I hate it, but I lost interest in the game VERY quickly, and thus didn't beat it. Hell, i'm not even sure I made an real progress. But this is a huge departure from Wind Waker. I loved WW so I was really excited for TP. When i finally got it, the game didn't draw me in and I do not like the wii controls. Sadly, Nintendo didn't think of adding GC controller support for the nice folks who esentially bought TP for $300.
Anyway, I like WW, didn't care for TP, what's next? Phantom Hourglass. I played the shit out of it and loved it. Because I liked the celshaded Zeldas so much, I actually went out and bought Minish Cap right after I beat PH. And I'm really liking it so far. |

I had been contemplating getting the Gamecube version of this game. My favorite so far is Ocriana of Time from the N64. I absolutely hated WW. I bought it, because I know its a good game. But before the game was introduced, Nintendo had a pre concept render of an adult link battling Gannon.. it was beautiful, everything I wanted from Zelda. Next thing I know... cell shaded, girly Link. I never bothered to play Majora's mask, by the time that came out I was done with Link.
