Will Nintendo ever cater to the Gamers?

Nintendo can say what they want, in regards to whom they seek to satisfy, and to whem their loyalties lie. Nintendo has found success with the mass market, with the non gamers. While I'm happy for their success, I am saddened by their disregard for gamers.
The Wii's controls are excellent and apparently they've made them better (with the addition of the the Wii Motion Plus). The Wii's Nunchuck, and Wiimote work well with its games, and show that they were well designed. However, The Classic Controller is awful, and is a direct polar opposite of controllers of Nintendo's past that were better thoughout and much more ergonomic; and thus is a slap to the face of all gamers. Before the Classic controller was released, Mad Catz released their Playstation 2 RetroCon controller. A controller that I was interested in, for Retro gaming. The D-pad was pretty good on the Retrocon. The primary problem that I had with the controller was the placement of the R1/R2, and the L1/L2 buttons. Intead of having them above and below one another, the Left and Right shoulder were next to each other all in one row. For the most part the L1, and R1 buttons were easy to reach as they were inline with the original L and R of the SNES controller, however this inline design makes L2, and R2 buttons a chore to reach. This is the issue that I have with Nintendo Wii's classic controller, plus I don't like the fact that it can't plug directly into the console, or just be wireless on its own. Where is Star Fox? Where is F-Zero? Where is Kid Icarus' triumphant return? How about a new Punchout to contend with Facebreaker? Why can't Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) use the gamecube controller? What I would like to see from Nintendo is a Wii Console that has a traditional Nintendo price tag, Xbox 360 graphics, and PS3 esq HDD upgradability. I'd also like to see some 720p from a future Nintendo Wii. I did a search for F-zero game for the Wii, just to see if there was anything on the horizon. Here is what I found: |

You know, I was thinking about this last night, and I wonder if other media had the same growing pains that we're having right now. I mean, when TV started expanding into cable, and people who weren't as interested in network television started really paying attention to things like MTV and HBO, did the "core" TV demographic get upset when they felt that they weren't being catered to? I know it's hard to imagine, since everybody has a TV now, but maybe we're well on our way to having video games be a normal social medium, and maybe we need to let Nintendo refocus their efforts in order to do that.

We're no strangers to this, you know the rules and so do I. A full commitment's what I was thinking of, but Nintendo's getting money from every other guy. I just wanna get some good games, Nintendo doesn't understand.
They're never gonna give it up, always gonna let us down, always gonna run around and desert us. Always gonna make me cry, never gonna let Wii Sports die. Remember when they told a lie about E3? I've known Nintendo for so long, my heart's been aching but, I'm too mad to say it. By now we both know what's been going on, they know the game and they're gonna play it. And if we ask them were the games are, don't tell me they're too blind to see They're never gonna give it up, always gonna let us down, always gonna run around and desert us. Always gonna make me cry, never gonna let Wii Sports die. Remember when they told a lie about E3? Never gonna give it up, always gonna let us down, always gonna run around and desert us. Always gonna make me cry, never gonna let Wii Sports die. Remember when they told a lie about E3? Give it up. Give it up. They're never gonna care, never gonna care, give it up. Never gonna care, never gonna care, give it up. I've known Nintendo for so long, my heart's been aching but, I'm too mad to say it. By now we both know what's been going on, they know the game and they're gonna play it. I just wanna tell you how they do business, because they understand Never gonna give it up, always gonna let us down, always gonna run around and desert us. Always gonna make me cry, never gonna let Wii Sports die. Remember when they told a lie about E3? Never gonna give it up, always gonna let us down, always gonna run around and desert us. Just be thankful that Nintendo is doing well now - the N64 was such a sad state of affairs for them. Just be patient. Look how well Super Mario Galaxy turned out. I love that game.

Yeah, that's true sOndwav3, you're right.
You know, this day and age, Nintendo has the ability to cater to all types of Gamers, Hardcore and Casual. At least offer some wireless controllers... 360 has wireless controllers, (as well as PS3), I'd like to have a basic good Wii wireless controller for the typical gamer, who wants to use the Wii as a basic video game machine. Cater to both that's what I really want. |

@SeanNOla
Now in that example that you gave, I feel that the Cable service was an extension of TV service and offerings. Much like the Wii has exapanded their services. However, in doing so, they actually did neglect gamers, by not introducing franchises such as F-Zero, and Star Fox. However, going back to what Wombat said during the CAGCast, He Referenced Madden selling only 100,000 copies on the Wii; versus 1mil on the 360, and about 600,000 on the Ps3. Most popular console with the least sells of the month's most popular game. Thinking about it like this, maybe its the gamers who aren't catering to the Wii. |
