New but-not-so-friendly-priced Player's Choice(?) versions of Nintendogs

Just recently, two of Nintendo DS's high selling games were reprinted, Club House Games and Hotel Dusk. They lowered its price to $19.99 which was a great thing. I guess some of us were considering its the beginning of the new line of Player's Choice-like games. I guess we were sort of wrong.

Last month, I posted a blog about it and thought they were rather fugly. Well today while I was browsing through Target's website looking for birthday gifts for my son, I happened to click the Nintendo DS link (one of his favorite platforms) and were very surprised to see a new line of these some what Player's Choice-like games. The other big surprised was their prices were different from the other two previous titles Nintendo released last month. They're priced at $29.99.

I thought to myself, aren't these priced at $29.99 MSRP anyways? I mean whats the point of changing the covers? You're really not saving any money by doing that. But I guess they are trying really REALLY hard to market these games for kids (aren't they anyways?) cause it says "A Puppy of your own: Pet, Train, and care for your very own dog." Yeaahhhhhh.

You'll probably dream of chihuahua's tonight. With brown stripe on the cover like this one

So I guess at this point, you really can't expect Nintendo to do Player's Choice anymore since they are pricing these games at launch retail prices. I mean, Zelda Twilight Princess for the Wii came out almost 2 years ago and its STILL priced at $49.99 ($45 average at times). I guess they figured, why lower the price when people are (sort of) buying them at full price. Which gives the used gaming market an advantage. According to VideoGamePriceCharts.com, the average price sold for Zelda TP is about $25 as of October 2008.

Wow that is really odd actually. The only thing I like better about these over the traditional "Player's Choice" versions is that the spine of the game is the same as the originals so on the shelves you can't tell that they're the reprints or whatever. Of course, I still am stupid about these things and prefer all original prints, but for those of us who are slightly less self-concsious but still want them to match our existing collections, they are great.

As for the pricing though, it is odd that they're not cheaper. Zelda TP still sells for roughly $30 on eBay which is pretty good considering it was a launch title in 2006...but then again Zelda games almost always retain their values pretty well As do most First Party Nintendo games.
