I'm sure most of you have already played it, but for those who didn't, I'll give you my opinions on why CoD4 is better (from a mutliplayer view only).
Short answer: It doesn't do enough.
It's really nice that Treyarch didn't completely screw up the game when they basically built the game from Call of Duty 4, but there aren't enough features that they added in addition to the setting change. All the modes are back from CoD4 with an addition of one more mode, War, a domination gametype, but then again it's only one more gametype when they could have added more possibilities. The maps are nice and well planned, but have too much of a dark theme, which makes it worse on your eyes to see enemy players.
And the guns. Though I understand it is a beta, the guys are TERRIBLE unbalenced. Thoughout the game you will (trust me) be using a sub machinegun, or semiautomatic rifle with a scope or supressor. Bolt-action rifles and machineguns are useless unless you want challenge points, semiauto rifles and submachine guns can snipe and be close range put with the right additions. Unlike in CoD4, it feels like the game can dominate with 1 tpye of gun. At least in CoD4, all guns felt like they had a use, sniping works well, machine guns were great supressors, assault rifles worked equally well, especially in hardcore mode. In hardcore more in WaW, all you really need to use is a MP40 or semiauto rifle with a scope, and you would dominate the entire game even if you sucked.
The dogs don't kill the balence, and actually fit the game, but in hardcore mode, they are hell. All dogs get you in 2 hits in regular but 1 hit in hardcore, which is terrible when getting swarmed, especially without a machine gun. They add a cool element, but overall feels a bit to gimmicky and like a joke.
Still, it manages to do some things well. The lobby system is more like halo, hitting y to see your friends list, and letting your party set to open so anyone can join. Gore is turn on, and looks pretty cool. And people in last stand can be revived.
WaW will sell well, people will leave to play this game, but I really doubt the staying power this will have. If this came out 1 year earlier, CoD4 would have dominated over this, but when all the level 55 prestige 10ers need another game to play, this will be it.

Hopefully the sales bomb. No offense I rather not buy a non-Infinity Ward Call of Duty outside of launch. Especially since It's not modern/future Warfare. IMHO a real bad sales decision especially with COD3 selling jack compared to 4 for the very reason the current one was Modern Warfare (imho). I hope they regret it (Blizzvision).

I have to agree with the thompson is the only gun I use because I suck with the rifles. There is only 1 thing that noticed that you did not put in the blog and that was I think the levels are too big. I liked COD4 because the action was always high in multiplayer. In the world at war beta, I noticed myself walking around and not finding anyone to kill or kill me, it is usually kill me.

War is actually from CoD 3. It's Treyarch's signature game mode ala Headquarters is with Infinity Ward. It's pretty much the same as in CoD 3 except for the momentum meter and the sudden death overtime if no one has cap'd all 5 flags. If it went to time in CoD 3 it was which team had the most flags, but this time it's like the new hockey in that "there must be a winner" as the flag point in the middle is set as the only flag and whomever cap's that flag wins the game.

I will say the regular rifles (especially the M1 Garand) work great in hardcore mode. In regular modes, I agree the semi-auto machine guns and the full machine gun rifles (BAR, etc.) are what almost has to be used.

The bolt-action rifles are still good once you know the map a bit, but are also a pain mainly because only the Springfield starts with a scope. You must get 25 kills to get scopes for the next 3.

The Nasat (bolt-action rifle after Asaska) is insanely powerful and will be a beast once I get a scope for it. I would say it's almost as powerful as the .50 cal from CoD 4.
I hate the trainyard level. It's so brown and very hard to tell rubble apart from enemy. That stupid glitch in that level ruins it as well, obviously.

The japanese map is okay.

The village map is almost too dark to see anything. I usually get caught by someone hiding in the water that is once again impossible to see.
