Good-bye Trade-in Cherry

So, as some of you may know from my previous blog post titled "My Shrink Wrap Stack Explanation" I have a large backlog of games and for better or worse I consider myself a game collector. Well, here are few things that I've come up with recently:

  1. I have slowly been coming to grips with the fact that I will never play all of the games I have in my shrink-wrap collection or even finish all those I have opened.
  2. It's not realistic keeping 360 games in hopes of one day getting all of their achievements.
  3. I have come to realize that the majority of my game-time as of late has been playing online multi-player games primarily with fellow CAGs and there is no need keeping multi-player games with no-one I know to play with.
  4. There are upcoming games that mean more to me than many of those in my collection.
  5. Finally, I can deal with not keeping/collecting every game I purchase.

So, what did I do on my way to work today? I traded in 3 of my games at Gamecrazy towards the purchase of one of my highly anticipated 360 games coming out soon: Call of Duty: World at War Collector's Edition.

Here's the breakdown:

Game Crazy Trade-In In-store Credit Values
Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii) = $26.40
Battlefield Bad Company (360) = $26.40
Unreal Tournament 3 (360) = $18.00

TOTAL = $70.80

GameStop/EBgames In-store Credit Values

Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii) = $25.25
Battlefield Bad Company (360) = $17.50
Unreal Tournament 3 (360) = $8.00

TOTAL = $50.75

So, some may ask why I decided to trade in my games at GameCrazy over GameStop/EBGames. One reason, I got more money, in fact from GS quotes I ended up getting $20.05 more at GameCrazy and I didn't have to deal with the douche bags unfriendly people that inhabit all of my local GS's. Anways, I am very proud of myself to make this first step and if you knew me and saw my home office you would be too. I do have to say that I am sad to see UT3 go though.

World at War collector's edition.

And good idea with choosing Game Crazy over GameStop. I did that for my last trade-in (which, coincidentally, was UT3).

Game Crazy is better than Gamestop, but I still would recommend Goozex if you plan to buy more games in the future. Some of the games may not be as in demand as others but you'll get closest to MSRP out of anywhere. If you don't know much about Goozex feel free to ask I love that site to death!

Flesh,
Did the Gamestop clerk not do the $15 bonus for trading in 3 next-gen games? If they didn't, you still got a better deal though.

Thanks goomba. I tried to Goozex these games but they're sitting in long lines behind others so I decided to take unlist them and just trade them into GC since I thought I was getting a fair-enough deal.

Gamestop's TIV's are all kinds of terrible. I got quoted something like $5 credit for the 1st Pheonix Wright game a month or so ago. I know it's an old game, but I decided to sell it to a smaller chain called Gamers and got $17 credit for it! If everybody knew how much more they could get at other places over gamestop, they'd be out of business by now.

Hitman, I guess I forgot about the next-gen $15 bonus and like I said before the local GS employees are less than helpful when it comes to that stuff and he didn't even mention it. Unfortunately it's not just a particular GS but instead pretty much all 12 that are within about a 15-mile radius of my house.

Excellent choice Flesh. I traded some games in to Game Crazy a few weeks ago and got over $150 in credit. I will never trade my stuff to GameStop again.

and now, A moment of silence for UT3 and BF:BC

Flesh, I have been struggling with the same dilemma!! I know that I have games that will never see the light of day, and yet, I cannot choose to give them up ... :( !! It would clear up a vast amount of space, especially since I get sucked into the multiplayer games almost 90% of the time (or more) with CAGS.

Congrats on taking that first big step! I need to work my way there .... !
haha, i sold UT3 about a week and a half after i got it!
and yea, i havn't traded in a game to GS in months! Goozex ftw.

and yea, its a hassle to ship stuff out, but its totally worth the value!

and we don't have a gamecrazy near us, what is it :X

only a GS, and they are opening up a "just press play" near my house, about 2 miles away! O, how my addiction will be met!
