Your D-pad would need to beat Shen Long to stand a chance against me! |

I'm as big a fan of Street Fighter as any video game addict that hit puberty in the mid-90's. I was never, and still am not, great (or even good) at any of the near 40 versions of Street Fighter that have come out since the original. But that never discouraged me from buying nearly every iteration for the home console and enjoying them for at least a few hours. So when the new HD remixed version of SFII became available for the 360, I was extremely excited!
That was until I downloaded the demo and played against a non-existent player 2. It's a good thing my couch cushion was holding the second controller because I think that was the only opponent I could beat. I could barely pull off a successful fireball using the 360 d-pad and was unable to pull off a dragon punch despite 5 minutes of trying. This was heartbreaking. My history with fighters has been exclusively with a controller and directional pad. I never really learned or cared to perfect fighting games with a joystick and I'm not going to start now. When I would play at cabinets in movie theaters I would either get my ass kicked in the game or my ass kicked in real life because I was apparently throwing elbows that would make Dennis Rodman cower in fear. So, it looks like I will skip over SFII for the 360 because the controller is absolutely miserable. But, it has made me wonder how other d-pad world warriors are making due with the 360 version. How do you guys play your Street Fighter and how are you making out with mushy 360 d-pad? L4D Update: After listening to another slew of podcasts with people gushing all over the game on my trip home from thanksgiving, I decided to buy the game from newegg for $45. Its at least less than retail! |

The dpad is garbage and the analog stick doesnt allow for much more accuracy than the dpad. There are a few 3rd party controllers that have good dpads and terrible everything else. They are usually fairly cheap and do the job well if your just using it for dpad games.

WOLFKIN, the dpad for the ps3 is not complete garbage like the 360s. If you are used to playing on dpads then the ps3 version will feel great to you.

JEKKI is right, the analog stick is better than the D pad. I used the d pad until I got a blister on my thumb. I switched over to the stick because it was easier on my thumb and I've grown to like it.

well until as a Wii-only gamer until recently I'm still going to have to get used to this idea of 'demo'. I'll give it a shot see what's up before I fully count it out.

The D-pad suck but the analog stick is even worse. I have gotten pretty good at pulling of moves with the D-pad but nowhere near as good as if I was using an arcade stick, which I will buy once the Street Fighter IV ones come out.

I on the other hand grew up playing my SF and MK in arcades and when on console had to have a joystick. So, I refuse to buy SFIITHDRwhatever on XBL until my joystick comes in on Wednesday. I was going to buy the PS3 version but nobody on my friends list has it/plays it and I really do prefer a joystick (Amazon's Hori PS3 stick is 2-3weeks before delivery) after failing miserably trying to finish the MKvDC (PS3) Kombo Challenges with a d-pad. Another reason I'm buying on the 360 is because I have over 3K points to burn.

I feel just like you do Woodcan in regards to buying the game on the PS3. I've got about 20 friends on live as compared to 0 on PSN. But more than that - it's a money issue. I've got about 6K points on live from discounted cards and zero dollars on PSN. In the spirit of the CAG lifestyle, I can't bring myself spend a full $15 when I've got a ton of "funny money" sitting around.

You made the first mistake by thinking the 360 controller was sufficient for SSF2T:HDR. I'm sorry but I love my 360 but fighting games with that D-Pad are absolute SHIT. I got the PS3 version instead because I have played multiple Fighting games (inclding CvS series and KOF) and was not only comfy with it but used to it using the PS2 controler. The great thing Sony did with that console is not
around with the gamepad and left it the hell alone. I was so happy when that boomerang design went out the window. But SSF2:HDR is awesome just not on the 360. Problem is though most of my friends do not have a ps3 and thus I can't play them online in this with the exception of a few. Crap. |

Sorry to the folks who already read this on another blog, I made my D-pad better. All you need is a box cutter.
If you cut around the d-pad with the box cutter cutting the white area around the d-pad. The d-pad will move better, it is not great but it will perform better. The area that gets cut out makes the d-pad move more in that direction actually pushing up inside of up-right.![]() |

I used to play street fighter on my xbox, however I had an xbox to PS2 controller adapter.... that definitely made fighting games ALOT more fun w/ the xbox controller. I think they're coming out with some D-pads so don't despair my friend.
Look, my friend I understand the crisis of trying to pull of an dragon punch with a controller that's utterly against it... I understand. |

I can play both styles (analog and stick) but that 360 d-pad is horrible.

I use the crummy Xbox d-pad unfortunately. It gets stuck sometimes which really stinks. I'm not really good with Arcade sticks, and prefer the d-pad myself. Maybe I'll open my controller up and mod the d-pad...
