Animal Crossing: City Folk - The Rant

I've had Animal Crossing: City Folk since it came out a few weeks back on Nov 15th and have probably already put too many hours into it.
I have 2 things I'd like to say about this game: I am very disappointed, and yet, I love this game so much. How could this be? This does not make sense?! Well, it doesn't make sense and that's because I probably have an untreated brain tumor at the moment. The Good It's Animal Crossing. It's the same style and gameplay that was introduced in the Gamecube version and continued on in Wild World for the DS. The gameplay and concept of it remains the same and that's a good thing! There seems to be a lot of things to collect. That's also a good thing! It def keeps you busy and always playing! We WANT to always play, right? If not, what's the point in liking this kind of game? If I'm not mistaken, I believe this is the first time there's some kind of festival for Easter in this game. Some new characters; travelers at least. I am not too sure on how many new villagers are in this game. All characters (human) now can choose their house, which is spread out all over the map and not tied down to the center square anymore. Taking the (school) bus to the City is new, and so is the City Lastly, the WiFi aspect of the game is where it shines. Going to someone else's town and meeting up with 3 other people can be hilarious to say the least. Sure, you may not be able to DO much..[but, it's what you make of it. The Bad It's the same game. There is not a lot new added to this game at all. There's a few new villagers, some new events, items, blah blah blah..but the feel of it is almost way too familiar. It should feel like a fresh new game, even if it's the third installment of something. Going to the City, well, sucks. It sucks because there's really not much to do at all. Gracie's store is a bunch of high end stuff that you can't afford until later in the game, Katrina is only interesting like.. once a month..Crazy Redd only restocks once a week..getting a new hairstyle is fun and laughable like 3 times, and even THAT isn't new since it's the same exact thing from the DS with the same exact hairstyles....So, what else is there in the City? I'll admit, the auction house seems interesting (It's currently not time to bid yet in my town..) and the HRA location.. is seemingly pointless IMO. For this game to be subtitled "City Folk" it really is underwhelming. Why aren't there new fruits? This is nit picking, but is it really? Why can't they have given us more options to get money. We still pick exotic fruit, fish, and catch bugs. I am not sure if there are more/new bugs/fish in this game..but if so, there aren't many. There's still the daily money rock, pitfalls, fossils, and gyroids. Again, NOTHING new. Why can't we have the island back? Why only 32 spots for friend codes? Why can you only save one picture at a time, and if you want to keep it you must transfer it to an SD card. That's fine, but why one at a time? Why not be able to have an album and THEN transfer photos to the SD card? This game just feels lazy, and it's idiots like me who go out and buy it anyway But it's Animal Crossing.. and I love it. :( |

Nintendo isn't getting ALL my money. I'm just going to get all the Wii games I need and then stop for awhile.

@TFN - I don't think Nintendo sucks as I <3333 my DS very much. But the Wii def is turning into a huge disappointment. Too many games are coming up short changed and it sucks.

I agree with you 100%. I'm enjoying the game and am still hooked onto animal crossing, but the lack of anything amazingly good kind of disappoints me. Plus now that I'm working IRL there's some annoyances that I can't help but wonder why they still do these. Such as there being practically nothing to do when Nook is closed, which is annoying when you're trying to get a bit of relaxing play time in before/after work.
